Latifi kijkt met goed gevoel terug: "Zeker meer diepe dalen dan hoge pieken"

Nicholas Latifi reed afgelopen weekend in Abu Dhabi zijn voorlopige laatste Grand Prix in de Formule 1. De Canadees kreeg immers geen contractverlenging bij Williams en hij wordt volgend seizoen vervangen door Logan Sargeant. Hij kijkt met een goed gevoel terug op zijn Formule 1-tijd.

Latifi debuteerde in 2020 in de koningsklasse van de autosport bij het team van Williams. Hij kende een lastig debuutseizoen maar mocht wel aanblijven bij de Britse renstal. Vorig seizoen scoorde hij zijn eerste WK-punten en leek hij de weg omhoog in te hebben gezet. Dit jaar presteerde hij echter ondermaats en zakte hij meerdere keren door de ondergrens.

Latifi werd veelvuldig verslagen door zijn teamgenoot Alexander Albon en hij kreeg dan ook geen nieuw contract. Het is tevens nog onduidelijk waar de Canadees volgend seizoen racet. In gesprek met de media-afdeling van de Formule 1 kijkt hij terug op zijn Williams-tijd: "Dit was zeker een ervaring. Ik ben enorm dankbaar voor deze drie jaar in de Formule 1, ze hebben mij in ieder geholpen bij de ontwikkeling van mijn karakter. Er waren zeker meer diepe dalen dan hoge pieken maar ik heb hier veel goede herinneringen. Ik ga me daarop focussen en aan de positieve dingen denken."
