Ben Sulayem ontkent verstoorde relatie met de FOM: "Praat om de dag met Domenicali"

Eerder dit jaar gingen er verhalen rond over een mogelijk bekoelde relatie tussen de FIA en het Formula One Management. De twee belangrijke organisaties zouden op gespannen voet leven maar volgens FIA-president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is hier echter helemaal niets van waar en is alles koek en ei.

Ben Sulayem is sinds dit jaar de president van de FIA. De man uit de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten heeft een roerig jaar achter de rug waarin hij meerdere brandjes moest blussen. De FIA hield tevens een stokje voor het verhogen van het aantal sprints, iets waar men bij het Formula One Management wat minder blij mee zou zijn.

Huwelijk

Ben Sulayem is zelf van mening dat er niets aan de hand is tussen hem en de FOM. Volgens Ben Sulayem is de relatie tussen hem en F1-president Stefano Domenicali zeer goed. Bij Motorsport.com spreekt de FIA-president zich uit: "Ik begrijp niet waar dit vandaan komt. Ik zal je vertellen over mijn relatie met de FOM. Ten eerste praat ik ongeveer om de dag met Stefano. Als ik hem niet bel, dan belt hij mij. Zelfs als er een vergadering is of er moet iets worden beslist. Dit is een huwelijk en dat zal het moeten overleven, dat gaat ook gebeuren."

Domenicali

De FIA-president verwijst tevens de verhalen over een onenigheid over de sprints naar het rijk der fabelen. Ben Sulayem heeft wel toe dat er in het verleden discussies waren met Domenicali: "Je kunt problemen hebben als er iets mis is, de relatie is echter niet slecht. Er worden vragen gesteld en we voeren gesprekken. Onze relatie is echter nooit beter geweest dan nu. Het is mijn belang dat de sport sterk staat. Ik luister naar hem en hij luistert naar mij. We weten dat we dit huwelijk duurzaam moet zijn. Het wordt alleen maar beter, dat is wel duidelijk."
