Domenicali stelt iedereen gerust: "Limiet is 24 Grands Prix"

De Formule 1 is in de afgelopen jaren steeds populairder geworden. De groei van de sport is ook terug te vinden op de kalender voor aankomend seizoen. In 2023 staat er immers 24 Grands Prix op de planning, een nieuw record. Volgens Stefano Domenicali zal dit aantal niet gaan groeien.

Niet iedereen is fan van de alsmaar groeiende kalender. Volgend jaar keren de Grands Prix van Qatar, Las Vegas en mogelijk ook China terug op de kalender. De Grand Prix nabij Shanghai is echter nog onzeker vanwege de strenge coronamaatregelen in China. Desalniettemin zullen de teams, coureurs en overige werknemers het zeer druk krijgen in het aankomende seizoen.

Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali heeft de kritische geluiden ook meegekregen. De Italiaan stelt iedereen dan ook gerust maar begint wel met een grapje in gesprek met Marca: "The sky is the limit! Nee, dat is een geintje. De limiet is, denk ik, de 24 Grands Prix van komend jaar. Dat is echt de optimale dimensie als je je bedenkt dat we echt over de gehele wereld enorm zijn gegroeid. Maar er komen niet meer races bij."

      Precies, haal er maar een paar van het huidige aantal af. En stop met die triple headers. Om de week was dikke prima!

      Ik wil het liefst niets missen, wat betekent dat ik de helft van de weekenden in het jaar moet blokken in de agenda. Dat schuurt nog wel eens met m’n vrouwelijke wederhelft. Sommige familieleden zijn ook nog eens hardleers en plannen steevast een feestje tijdens F1. Kouwe kant natuurlijk ;)

      Precies hoe meer ergens van is hoe minder speciaal het wordt. F1 is hard op weg om ehh Mac Donalds te worden.

    Daar passen makkelijk nog 18 sprintraces extra bij. En een paar doordeweekse races, als ze toch bezig zijn.
    En in het kader van groen en duurzaam moet dat ook makkelijk met 2 motoren lukken. Gewoon iets meer knijpen en managen.

    Het zou mijn voorkeur hebben dat het als volgt wordt geregeld:
    - twee wereldkampioenschappen met ongewijzigde regels: dan wordt er dus (B-specs daargelaten) twee jaar met dezelfde auto's gereden;
    - in die twee jaar worden er 24 weekenden op verschillende locaties georganiseerd: 12 per kalenderjaar - een wereldkampioenschap duurt één kalenderjaar;
    Een raceweekend bestaat uit een kwalificatie, een Sprint en een Grand Prix. De uitslag van Q1 is de startopstelling van de Sprint. De uitslag van Q3 is de startopstelling van de Grand Prix.

    Gevolg: lagere kosten, minder vliegbewegingen, meer actie per weekend en minder verzadiging bij het publiek.

      Ik vind het niet eens zo slecht bedacht. Vooral je laatste punt, Liberty lijkt de devaluatie can een GP niet in de gaten te hebben bij zo een enorme overvloed.
