Naast Portugal ook Turkije in race om Chinese GP te vervangen

Onlangs is het nieuws aangekondigd dat velen allang zagen aankomen. De Chinese Grand Prix van 2023 is officieel afgeblazen. De afzegging betekent dat er een gat van vier weken zal vallen in de drukke 2023-kalender van de Formule 1. De organisatie achter de koningsklasse is echter al druk bezig om met de Portugese partijen te onderhandelen voor een vervangende Grand Prix in Portimão. Volgens de president van de Portugese autosportfederatie Ni Amorim is de Formule 1 echter ook in gesprek met een F1-host concurrent: Turkije.

Recentelijk werd nieuws naar buiten gebracht dat de Grand Prix van China opnieuw niet door zal gaan. Het immens grote land zucht onder de strenge maatregelen die gebruikt worden om te pogen Covid-19 onder bedwang te krijgen. Hierdoor heeft de achterliggende organisatie opnieuw de knoop moeten doorhakken om de race op het Shanghai International Circuit af te zeggen. Het laat hiermee een grote ruimte van vier weken in de kalender achter tussen de Grands Prix van Australië en Azerbeidzjan.

Het betekent een perfecte kans voor anderen om in deze ruimte te springen: het management van de Formule 1 is namelijk in gesprek om de koningsklasse opnieuw af te laten reizen naar het warme Portimão in Portugal. President van de Portugese autosport- en kartfederatie Ni Amorim is namens het achtbaanachtige Autódromo Internacional do Algarve bezig om de zaak rond te maken, maar laat weten dat 'Turkije ook in de running is' wat betreft het vervangen van de Chinese Grand Prix.

Ook laat de Portugese president weten dat de onderhandelingen met de Formule 1 nog lange niet rond zijn. "Momenteel weet ik niet wat de voorgestelde bedragen zijn, simpelweg omdat we deze fase van de onderhandelingen nog niet bereikt hebben", vertelt Amorim tegenover theportugalnews.com. "De federatie zal er alles aan doen om de AIA zoveel mogelijk te helpen om het project mogelijk te maken", sluit Amorim af.
