Hungaroring kondigt grote verbouwingen aan

Steeds meer old skool-circuits op de Formule 1-kalender moeten meebewegen met de huidige tijd. Eerder werden er al werkzaamheden aangekondigd in Spa-Francorchamps, nu gaat men ook op de Hungaroring aanpassingen doorvoeren. Volgens de circuitdirecteur wordt er binnenkort gestart met grootschalige werkzaamheden aan de baan nabij Boedapest.

De Hungaroring staat sinds 1986 op de Formule 1-kalender en is in de tussentijd uitgegroeid tot één van de populairste circuits van de kalender. De faciliteiten van het circuit zijn echter verouderd en dat betekent dat men aan de bak moet. Onder andere het elektriciteitsnetwerk van het circuit, de hoofdingang en de faciliteit voor de ontvangst van de bezoekers worden aangepast. Tevens komen er een café en een winkel voor de fans.

Infrastructuur

Circuit CEO Zsolt Gyulay ziet dat er steeds meer nieuwe circuits met moderne faciliteiten op de Formule 1-kalender verschijnen. Bij Motorsport.com spreekt de Hongaar zich uit: "We mogen niet vergeten dat de infrastructuur op andere banen van een veel hoger niveau zijn dan bij ons. Dankzij het strategische ontwikkelingsprogramma zijn we in staat om op korte termijn al met hen te concurreren. Op die manier kunnen we de Formule 1 behouden en nog jaren de aandacht op ons land vestigen."

Populariteit

De Hongaarse Grand Prix hoeft voorlopig echter niet te vrezen voor zijn plekje op de Formule 1-kalender. De race is nog steeds zeer populair, Gyulay bevestigt dat: "Het laat niet alleen zien dat de coureurs, maar ook de fans van ons circuit houden. De cijfers van 2022 bewijzen dat dan ook. Op zondag hadden we 100.000 toeschouwers, over vier dagen hadden we er 290.000. De race was al in april uitverkocht. Nu is dat al het geval in december."

Vroeger stond dit circuit bekend als niet mogelijk om in te halen.
Sinds het aanpassen van de eerste bocht zie ik eerlijk gezegd flink wat inhaalacties en hele leuke races.
Wat mij betreft is dit ook een klassieker en een heel gaaf circuit, wat ik in het lijstje oldschool heb staan.

Deze baan mag wat mij betfreft van de kalender af, althans als dat betekent dat daardoor echte Europese old-school banen wel op de kalender blijven / komen. Denk aan Silverstone, Spa, Monza, Imola, Nurburgring, Hockenheim.

  De door jou genoemde circuits moeten m.i. allemaal blijven of terugkomen @Maximo, inclusief de Hungaroring!
  Als er gesnoeid moet worden dan enkel en alleen bij de stratenraces.
  Helaas is dat niet de trend...

  Er zijn andere circuits die ik liever zie verdwijnen dan dit. Op dit circuit speelt geregeld ook de bandenstrategie een rol waarbij teams kiezen voor een setje banden meer en anderen niet.
  
  Door de nieuwe regelgeving en aanpassing van T1 is inhalen niet het grootste probleem - meer zelfs, intussen haalt men ook op andere plaatsen in op dit circuit, iets wat vroeger niet denkbaar was. Maar uiteraard wil ik ook liefst meer Europese GP's op de kalender met uitzondering van Frankrijk (toch het huidig circuit). Het F1 doel is 1/3de Europa - 1/3de Amerika - 1/3de Azië dus zit er wel een (negatieve) verschuiving ondanks de uitgebreide kalender.

  @lary, niet helemaal eens. Persoonlijk vind ik baku, singapore etc wel gaaf, bahrein, abudhabi, miami. Mogen per direct eraf. Las vegas wil ik wel een kans geven, aangezien we dat nog niet hebben gezien. Maar grote kans dat die volgend jaar op hetzelfde lijstje staat bij mij om af te voeren

  Ik heb in 1998 haast de GP gemist omdat ik zolang in de rij moest staan.
  Gelukkig was ik net op klaar (gekomen) voor de race.
