Ben Sulayem heeft onrustig jaar achter de rug: "Hadden een zaak over de halo"

Mohammed Ben Sulayem heeft een bewogen eerste jaar als FIA-president achter de rug. De man uit de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten moest meerdere brandjes blussen binnen de Formule 1 en kreeg tevens te maken met meerdere grote problemen. Nu lijkt deze lastige periode echter voorbij te zijn.

Ben Sulayem werd eind vorig jaar verkozen als opvolger van Jean Todt. De nieuwe FIA-president kon direct beginnen met puinruimen in de Formule 1. De spraakmakende Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi zat er net op en Ben Sulayem moest de zaak omtrent wedstrijdleider Michael Masi en de balende Lewis Hamilton oplossen. Tevens had de FIA te maken met een juridisch probleem en kwam met twintig miljoen dollar te kort.

De grote problemen zijn nu echter verleden tijd. Ben Sulayem kan rustig adem halen en spreekt voor het eerst over de juridische problemen. Bij Motorsport.com spreekt hij zich uit: "De ochtend na het FIA-gala zat ik al om 10 uur in een meeting met mijn juridische team. Ze vertelden mij dat we een zaak hadden met de halo. Ik kan er niet te veel op ingaan maar we hebben het afgelopen maand definitief afgesloten. Nu is de halo gepatenteerd door de FIA."

Maar vanaf nu kun je dus geen Halo meer spelen op je Xbox, of het bekende liedje van Beyoncé luisteren.
Dat hebben ze dus wél bereikt.
Want Halo is vanaf nu alleen van FIA.
