Shwartzman denkt na over toekomst: "Wil contact met F1-paddock niet verliezen"

Robert Shwartzman fungeerde dit seizoen als derde rijder van het team van Ferrari. De Rus kwam voor Ferrari in actie in twee vrije trainingen. Aangezien alle teams verplicht zijn om minimaal twee keer een rookie in te zetten in een vrije training, lijkt het logisch dat Shwartzman een nieuw contract krijgt. Er is echter nog geen beslissing genomen.

Shwartzman kwam dit jaar niet in actie in een andere klasse. De Ferrari-reserve reed enkel de twee vrije trainingen en kwam verder alleen maar in actie tijdens tests. Het is dan ook nog maar de vraag wat hij in 2023 gaat doen, Shwartzman kan immers niet nog een jaar aan de zijlijn blijven staan. Shwartzman wordt wel in verband gebracht met een zitje in het WEC voor aankomend seizoen.

Paddock

De Russische coureur geeft zelf aan dat hij al zijn opties voor aankomend seizoen nog aan het bekijken is. Shwartzman legt de situatie uit in gesprek met het Italiaanse Autosprint: "Ik heb nu meerdere opties, ik heb meerdere aanbiedingen ontvangen. Laten we dus maar eens gaan kijken hoe alles gaat. Het is niet mijn doel om zoveel mogelijk te kunnen racen. Maar op hetzelfde moment wil ik niet het contact met de Formule 1-paddock verliezen."

Reservecoureur

Shwartzman droomt daarnaast nog altijd van een debuut in de koningsklasse van de autosport. De voormalig Formule 2-coureur steekt die ambitie dan ook niet onder stoelen of banken: "De Formule 1 is mijn droom dus ik blijf actief als reservecoureur. Misschien kan ik verder gaan met het ontwikkelen van de auto achter de schermen, dat is heel erg interessant. Maar het blijft het doel om ergens te kunnen racen."
