Schumacher wil criticasters ongelijk geven en houdt vast aan F1-droom

Jongeling Mick Schumacher is officieel exit uit de Formule 1. De zoon van zevenvoudig wereldkampioen Michael Schumacher mocht twee seizoenen lang deel uitmaken van het team van Haas, maar wist tijdens deze periode geen genoeg bewijs te leveren voor een contractverlenging. Nu de winterstop is begonnen en de koningsklasse in een diepe slaap sukkelt, kan Schumacher reflecteren op zijn periode in de Formule 1.

Mick Schumacher is zijn stoeltje bij Haas verloren. Gene Haas, eigenaar van de Amerikaanse renstal, nam geen genoegen met de resultaten die de Duitser de afgelopen twee jaar heeft behaald. Zodoende is de jongeling geforceerd om een stap terug te nemen zodat hij een eventuele nieuwe weg richting de koningsklasse kan ontdekken. In gesprek met Auto Motor und Sport kijkt Schumacher terug op de afgelopen twee seizoenen in de Formule 1.

Op de vraag of Schumacher extra druk op zijn schouders voelde omdat Gene Haas resultaten wou zien, antwoordt Schumacher: "Dat verhoogde de druk niet. Puntenscores was een doel van ons allemaal. We hadden genoeg mogelijkheden om ze te leveren, maar helaas waren er ook genoeg andere redenen waarom dat niet gebeurde. We hadden veel meer punten kunnen hebben als één of twee situaties anders waren verlopen", vertelt Schumacher.

Met de introductie van een nieuwe generatie F1-auto’s, leek Schumacher moeilijkheden te kennen om de VF-22 bolide op de grens te laten balanceren. De Duitser had meerdere crashes, waaronder een zeer zware klapper bij de Grand Prix van Saudi-Arabië. Zijn team leek hierdoor vanwege het budgetplafond financieel onder druk te komen te staan, een scenario dat ongetwijfeld geen goeds deed voor Schumacher’s kansen op een contractverlenging. De mening van de coureur is dan ook dat koningsklasse-rookies 'langer de tijd' zouden moeten krijgen om te kunnen wennen aan de snelste sport ter wereld.

Wat betreft zijn blikveld is Schumacher in ieder geval niet van plan om af te wijken. De Duitser laat weten druk bezig te zijn om een weg terug te vinden naar de Formule 1: "Ik wil zeker in de Formule 1 blijven en ben nu aan het kijken naar de opties die er zijn. Hopelijk kies ik de juiste. Ik wil iedereen die niet in mij gelooft ongelijk geven. Ik weet wat ik kan, ik heb het bewezen in de junior categorieën en ik zie geen reden waarom ik niet hetzelfde in de Formule 1 zou kunnen doen", sluit Schumacher strijdvaardig af.

Ik geef hem kans!
Ze zoeken bij één van de teams vast nog wel wel een reservevrachtwagenchauffeur zodat ze de materialen alsnog op het circuit kunnen brengen indien de vaste vrachtwagenchauffeurs verhinderd zijn.
Misschien een 0-uren contract?

De beste manier om dat te doen is door in een klasse te gaan rijden dicht in de buurt van F1 niveau... daar goed presteren in je rookieseizoen en hopen op een telefoontje rond de maanden juli/augustus/september. (de afronding kan wel ergens in november zijn maar t eerste belletje zou rond deze periode plaats moeten vinden voor een serieuze kans)

Ik zou zeggen gebruik WEC. Voor hoever ik weet heeft Ferrari nog een plekkie over in WEC. Porsche Penske heeft ook nog niks besloten qua rijders volgens mij. Anders is er nog Proton die met een Porsche bolide wil rijden. Anders wordt het smeken bij Glickenhaus dat parttime wil rijden in 2023

Wordt dat niks dan Supercars misschien of DTM (als DTM nog door gaat volgend jaar). Superformula/Indycar/Formule E is inmiddels bezet.
