Mazepin aast op internationale comeback in 2023

Nikita Mazepin moest dit seizoen noodgedwongen aan de zijlijn staan. De Russische coureur werd door Haas ontslagen als gevolg van de oorlog in Oekraïne. Mazepin reed dit jaar in Rusland maar als het aan hem ligt rijdt hij in 2023 weer in internationale raceklassen.

Mazepin was tot en met de wintertest in Barcelona nog één van de coureurs van Haas. Toen de oorlog in Oekraïne uitbrak werd zijn positie bij het Amerikaanse team onhoudbaar. De Mazepins hebben goede banden met het Kremlin en de coureur werd ontslagen. Hij ondertekende het document van de FIA niet waardoor hij niet kon racen buiten Rusland.

Dakar Rally

Mazepin brandt van de ambitie en hij wil in 2023 weer terugkeren op de internationale circuits. De Russische coureur heeft snode plannen en hij deelt er het een en ander over bij Championat: "Ik heb het plan om te gaan racen in een nieuwe discipline buiten Rusland. Ik heb de hoop dat ik hierover meer kan gaan zeggen in januari. Het wordt niet de Dakar Rally, dat is te moeilijk. Er zijn daarvoor te veel problemen en het heeft geen nut als ik dat allemaal ga opnoemen."

Schumacher

De Russische coureur baalt wel nog steeds van zijn exit bij Haas. Mazepin heeft nog steeds het gevoel dat hij Mick Schumacher kon verslaan. Mazepin: "Ik had een plannetje gemaakt om beter voor de dag te komen dan Mick Schumacher. Ik houd er echter niet van om te praten over iets wat had kunnen gebeuren. Maar als je kijkt naar de laatste dag in Barcelona, dan zie je dat ik sneller was."

Mazepin gaat op uitnodiging van Moskou rijden in een T-71 tank klasse.
De pantserrupsvoertuig klasse gaat racen in een nieuwe discipline buiten Rusland, in de Oekraïense regio Donetsk.
De kans is groot dat we snel nooit meer wat van hem zullen horen.

Dat betekent toch dat je juist wel kon racen buiten Rusland? De situatie rond Nikita Mazepin is in dit opzicht altijd vaag geweest. Want hij heeft het dus wel wel ondertekend, en alsnog werd hij weggedrukt. En Haas heeft dat geld gewoon in eigen zak gestoken kennelijk.
