Sainz blij met Vasseur: "Je moet hem wel tijd geven"

Frédéric Vasseur werd eerder deze week aangesteld als de nieuwe teambaas van Ferrari. De Fransman begint in januari met zijn nieuwe job en hij wordt de opvolger van Mattia Binotto. Carlos Sainz heeft direct contact gezocht met zijn nieuwe baas en de Spanjaard kijkt enorm uit naar de samenwerking.

De komst van Vasseur hing al geruime tijd in de lucht. De naam van de Franse teambaas viel al voordat het vertrek van Binotto officieel werd gemaakt door Ferrari. Vasseur komt over van het team van Alfa Romeo en hij kijkt ernaar uit om te beginnen aan zijn nieuwe werk. In het verleden werkte hij al samen met Charles Leclerc maar hij heeft ook een verleden met Carlos Sainz.

Renault

Sainz kent Vasseur namelijk nog van zijn tijd bij het team van Renault. Vasseur was immers nog de leidinggevende van Renault toen men de onderhandelingen begon met Sainz. De Spanjaard heeft zin in de samenwerking met Vasseur en hij wordt geciteerd door Marca: "Ik vertrouw Fred, ik ken hem en ik heb altijd goed contact met hem gehad. We hebben onderhandeld bij Renault. Ik heb hem gisteren opgebeld en toen had ik voor het eerst contact met hem als Ferrari-coureur. Ik weet zeker dat hij het goed gaat doen."

Tijd geven

Sainz realiseert zich dat de druk op zijn nieuwe teambaas direct heel erg groot zal zijn. De Spaanse coureur roept iedereen dan ook op om rustig te blijven: "Je moet hem wel tijd geven. Ferrari is een soort reus, er werken 1200-1300 mensen. Hij moet eerst maar eens kijken hoe iedereen werkt en welke veranderingen er gemaakt moeten worden. Maar als er een nieuw gezicht binnenkomt, is er extra motivatie omdat je het goed wil doen."

Ik snap wat Carlos bedoelt, maar volgens mij is Vasseur juist gehaald omdat Elkann vindt dat 'de tijd geven' voor Ferrari nu juist voorbij is. ;-)
