Wolff trots op Russell: "Hij kwam binnen met zijn stropdasje en PowerPoint"

George Russell beleefde dit jaar een topseizoen in dienst van het team van Mercedes. Het was Russells eerste volledig seizoen in dienst van Mercedes en hij was direct sneller dan zijn teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton. Teambaas Toto Wolff is trots op Russell en hij denkt dan ook graag terug aan oude tijden.

Russell was voor zijn Mercedes-stoeltje immers al onderdeel van de Mercedes-familie. De Brit was onderdeel van de opleidingsploeg van Mercedes en reed in de afgelopen jaren in de Formule 1 voor het team van Williams. De afgelopen jaren maakte hij daar enorm veel indruk en de promotie naar Mercedes was dan ook geen grote verrassing.

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff is trots op de prestaties van Russell in 2022. Mercedes had een lastig seizoen maar de Brit vormde het lichtpuntje, hij won dan ook de Braziliaanse Grand Prix. Wolff dacht na die zege terug aan oude tijden en dat sprak hij uit bij de media-afdeling van de Formule 1: "Ik moest eraan denken tegen het einde van de Braziliaanse Grand Prix. Ik dacht aan het moment dat hij als zestienjarige jongen de fabriek in kwam lopen met zijn stropdasje en zijn PowerPoint. We hebben altijd stevige doelen gesteld. Je moet winnen in de GP3, je moet winnen in de Formule 2 en hij deed dat in zijn rookieseizoenen."

Mijn eerste vrijpartij, ik ging er 'n meter vandaan staan omdat ik niet wist hoe lang tie zou worden.

    Ik weet nog goed toen ik 16 was, lang haar, pukkels op m'n bakkes, spijkerpak aan en..... m'n brommer natuurlijk en biertjes drinken én meisjes achterna hobbelen.

    Mijn eerste vrijpartij, ik ging er 'n meter vandaan staan omdat ik niet wist hoe lang tie zou worden.
    Achteraf veeeeel te ver natuurlijk, maar ik heb er goede herinneringen aan........mooie tijd.
