Wolff blij met komst Schumacher: "Hij is nog steeds heel hongerig"

Eerder vandaag werd bekend dat Mick Schumacher vanaf aankomend seizoen zal gaan fungeren als de nieuwe derde coureur van het team van Mercedes. De Duitser reed dit seizoen in de Formule 1 voor het team van Haas en daar kreeg hij geen nieuw contract. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff is blij met de komst van Schumacher.

Schumacher heeft vandaag een bijzondere dag achter de rug. Eerder op de dag werd bekend dat hij tevens geen contractverlenging krijgt bij Ferrari. Schumacher was immers nog steeds onderdeel van de opleidingsploeg en was dit seizoen naast Haas-coureur ook één van de reserves van Ferrari. Zijn vertrek bij Ferrari hing al eventjes in de lucht maar werd vandaag dus officieel.

Ontwikkeling

Vlak na het nieuws van zijn Ferrari-exit kwam Mercedes met een persbericht naar buiten over de komst van Schumacher. De jonge Duitser wordt reservecoureur en zal veel meters gaan maken op de simulator. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff reageert verheugd in het persbericht: "Mick is een getalenteerde jonge coureur en we zijn heel erg blij dat hij zich bij ons team zal voegen. Hij is kalm en hij benaderd alles heel erg rustig. Hij is nog steeds hongerig en hij wil leren en zich verbeteren als coureur. Dit zijn belangrijke kwaliteiten en we zijn blij dat hij ons zal gaan helpen met de ontwikkeling van de W14."

Invaller

Het feit dat Schumacher is aangesteld als reservecoureur betekent dus ook dat hij mogelijk kan gaan invallen bij ziekte of blessures van Lewis Hamilton en George Russell. Wolff weet dit ook en geeft het eerlijk toe: "We zijn ons er tevens van bewust dat hij met twee jaar ervaring in de Formule 1, er klaar voor zal zijn om snel in te vallen als er iets aan de hand is met Lewis of George."

  Toto is helemaal klaar met die geldverslindende budgetcapcateraars, en flikkert daarom hoogstpersoonlijk alle maaltijden van het MB personeel in zijn xxl airfryert.

  Als het zover is zal Toffe Toto zijn vriendin bij de FIA wel inschakelen, vervolgens blijkt er volgens de FIA iets niet in orde te zijn met Mick's papieren en zou het een maand duren om dat te fiksen.
  
  Helaas en jammer voor Mick is Mercedes dan wel gedwongen om ______________ in de auto te zetten...

Geef Mick nog het voordeel van de twijfel. Wie weet floreert hij in eens wel. Ook al denken velen dat het twijfelachtig is hoe hij in de junior klassen kon winnen, ik sta er niet van te kijken als hij in 2024 Hamilton vervangt en vervolgens vooraan mee doet.
