'Saoedische Grand Prix opent Formule 1-seizoen 2024'

Eerder vandaag maakte de organisatie van de Australische Grand Prix bekend dat ze hun gloednieuwe contract met de Formule 1 met nog twee jaar hebben verlengd. De Grand Prix op het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne staat nu tot en met 2037 op de kalender. Tevens heeft men een detail op de Saoedische Grand Prix onthuld.

Met de ondertekening van het nieuwe contract werd een eerder dit jaar beklonken deal namelijk verbroken. De organisatie van de Australische Grand Prix kreeg eerder dit jaar immers ook al een nieuw contract en men maakte toen bekend dat ze de seizoensopeners in 2024 en 2025 voor hun rekening mochten nemen. Dit is bij de nieuwe deal echter niet het geval.

Het was namelijk al bekend dat men in 2024 de seizoensopener uit handen zou gaan geven vanwege de ramadan. De Grand Prix-organisatoren in het Midden-Oosten willen dan geen evenement houden. Volgens een statement van de Australische staat Victoria wordt de seizoensopener in 2024 verreden in Saoedi-Arabië. Dat zou dus betekenen dat de Saoedische Grand Prix in Jeddah voor het eerst een seizoen mag aftrappen. De Formule 1 heeft nog niet gereageerd.
