Schumacher trots op Mercedes-deal: "Zie dit als een nieuwe start"

Gisteren werd bekend dat Mick Schumacher vanaf aankomend seizoen zal gaan fungeren als reservecoureur van Mercedes. De Duitse coureur kreeg geen nieuw contract bij Haas en vindt nu bij de Duitse formatie onderdak. Vanzelfsprekend was Schumacher zelf zeer te spreken over deze verwachte deal.

Schumacher en Mercedes werden al geruime tijd met elkaar in verband gebracht. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff liet al regelmatig doorschemeren dat hij de komst van Schumacher wel zag zitten. De Duitser beleefde dit seizoen geen sterk seizoen bij Haas en hij kreeg geen nieuw contract. Gisteren werd tevens bekend dat hij de Ferrari-opleidingsploeg ging verlaten, hierdoor zat hij heel eventjes zonder werk.

Schumachers Mercedes-deal werd vlak na het Ferrari-nieuws gedeeld met het wereldwijde publiek. De Duitser was daar zelf enorm tevreden mee en dat deelt hij dan ook in het bijbehorende persbericht van zijn nieuwe werkgever Mercedes: "Ik ben trots dat ik onderdeel mag gaan uitmaken van het team van Mercedes als hun reservecoureur in 2023. Ik ga er alles aan doen om bij te dragen aan de performance en de professionele omgeving. Ik zie dit als een nieuwe start en ik ben Toto en de rest dankbaar voor hun vertrouwen."
