Ralf Schumacher ziet win-win situatie bij Mercedes-stap Mick

Eerder deze week werd bekend dat Mick Schumacher in 2023 zal gaan fungeren als reservecoureur bij het topteam van Mercedes. De Duitse coureur reed dit seizoen in de Formule 1 bij het team van Haas, hij kreeg daar echter geen nieuw contract. Micks oom Ralf Schumacher is in ieder geval fan van de Mercedes-move.

Mick Schumacher kende dit jaar niet bepaald een sterk seizoen in dienst van Haas. De Duitse coureur maakte veel foutjes, crashte veel en werd verslagen door zijn teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen. Schumacher kreeg geen nieuw contract en wordt volgend seizoen vervangen door zijn landgenoot Nico Hülkenberg. Schumachers contract bij de opleidingsploeg van Ferrari werd eveneens verscheurd.

Win-win situatie

Bij Mercedes kan hij zijn loopbaan nieuw leven inblazen. Volgens oud-coureur Ralf Schumacher is het een slimme zet. Ralf deelt in gesprek met het Duitse Sky Sports zijn complimenten uit aan zijn neef: "Het is denk ik wel een win-win situatie voor zowel Mick als Mercedes. Enerzijds omdat het team nu een coureur heeft die kan invallen als één van de vaste rijder niet kan rijden. Anderzijds natuurlijk ook voor Mick zelf omdat hij nu in een team zit waar hij veel kan leren."

Simulator

Mick Schumacher komt volgend jaar terecht bij een absoluut topteam en hij kan dus ook veel gaan leren. Volgens zijn oom Ralf kan dit goed uitpakken: "Hij ziet nu een nieuwe structuur bij een grote renstal met simulatoren. Haas heeft die dingen helemaal niet. Ook heeft hij de mogelijkheid om tests te doen en misschien op vrijdag in te stappen in een auto die hopelijk races kan winnen."

Goede perspectieven voor de toekomst

Toch moet ook zesvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar Schumacher erkennen dat er maar beperkte mogelijkheden zijn voor zijn neefje om topfit te blijven in 2023.

"Ik weet niet hoeveel kilometers hij mag maken in oude auto's. En daarnaast? Verder krijg je alleen de kans tijdens de young driver test, maar voor Mick wordt dat ook een lastig verhaal. Laten we afwachten wat er geregeld wordt", zegt de in 2007 afgezwaaide F1-coureur, die voor Schumacher met een schuin oog alvast naar 2024 kijkt.
"Er is verder echter niets dat in de buurt komt van de Formule 1 om fit te blijven, zelfs racen in een andere klasse helpt niet echt. Toch weet je nooit wat er gaat gebeuren en waar je geen aandacht aan hoeft te schenken.
Volgend jaar is het laatste seizoen van Lewis Hamilton bij Mercedes. Als er geen verlenging komt, heeft hij wellicht een mooi vooruitzicht voor de toekomst."

Mick zie je niet meer terug in een F1 auto, misschien als invaller als iemand ziek is, zelfs dan moet ik het eerst nog zien dat ze kiezen voor Mick.

Zit alleen maar voor Promo doeleinden voor Mercedes bij het team, hij is van de straat af zullen we maar zeggen..

Als invaller oké maar meer ook niet, de verwachtingen van de fam. Schumacher zijn veel te hoog wat wel jammer is een rieel zelfbeeld zal de naam van de familie minder schaden.

Dus hij heeft een contract bij Mercedes, maar wat gaat het hem brengen? De zitjes zijn gevuld en de eerste jaren zie ik hem niet racen voor Mercedes. De kans is klein dat hij mag invallen en zie de win win situatie niet die Ralf wel ziet.
