Aston Martin zal historische Jordan faciliteiten slopen om ruimte voor nieuw gebouw te maken

Aston Martin is druk bezig om stappen voorwaarts te zetten richting de top van de Formule 1. Het team heeft onder leiding van een door Lawrence Stroll geleid consortium daad bij woord toegevoegd door aan de bouw te beginnen van een nieuw hoofdkwartier inclusief windtunnel. Het oude gebouw zal niet meer nodig zijn, wat betekent dat de historische faciliteiten, die oorspronkelijk gebouwd zijn in opdracht van Eddie Jordan voor de ondersteuning van zijn Jordan F1-team in 1990, gesloopt zullen worden.

Het team van Eddie Jordan Racing begon aan de bouw van haar hoofdkwartier in 1990. Het gebouw, dat pal naast het circuit van Silverstone in Groot-Brittannië ligt, werd opgezet om het team toentertijd richting succes in de Formule 1 te ondersteunen. Ook teams Midland en het Nederlandse team Spyker hebben gebruik gemaakt van het pand, alvorens een consortium onder leiding van miljardair Lawrence Stroll het hoofdkwartier overnam voor de ondersteuning van team Racing Point, dat sinds 2021 de naam van Aston Martin draagt.

Nu het geen kwestie is van of, maar eerder wanneer het nieuwe ultramoderne gebouw door Aston Martin in gebruik genomen kan worden, zal het historische pand van Jordan niet meer nodig zijn en dus wordt het naar verwachting in de zomer van 2023 met de grond gelijk gemaakt.

Guy Austin, projectmanager, legt in een video op het officiële Youtube-kanaal van Aston Martin uit wat de bedoeling is zodra het oude pand gesloopt is. "Wanneer we in gebouw één (de nieuwe fabriek) zijn ingetrokken, gaan we dit pand de aankomende zomer slopen. Het zal een triest moment zijn wanneer die dag is aangekomen. We gaan we vervangen met een nieuw gebouw. Hierin komt ons nieuwe restaurant en onze fitness studio voor alle medewerkers", vertelt Austin.

Na de zomer van 2023 gaan ze het nieuwe gebouw pas opbouwen, apart want ze hebben mijn ouwe koeienstal al in 2021 opgehaald...
