Schumacher, Vettel slaan opnieuw handen ineen bij 2023-editie Race of Champions

Mick Schumacher en Sebastian Vettel hebben aangekondigd samen hun moederland Duitsland in de Race of Champions editie van 2023 te gaan vertegenwoordigen. Ditmaal zal het prestigieuze evenement weer in Zweden afspelen, waardoor het gevecht tussen landen plaats gaat vinden op het ijs en in de sneeuw.

Samen met Sebastian Vettel zal Mick Schumacher meedoen aan de 2023-editie van de Race of Champions in het Zweedse badplaatsje Pite Havsbad. De samenwerking tussen de beide coureurs is geen verrassing, de namen Schumacher en Vettel zijn immers al jarenlang met elkaar verbonden. De twee vrienden wacht een hels karwei om de ROC Nations Cup titel mee terug naar Duitsland te nemen.

Op de officiële website van de ROC meldt Schumacher: "Het is geweldig om terug bij de Race of Champions te zijn en alle coureurs weer te zien. Nog beter is het dat Sebastian (Vettel) ook mee zal doen, hopelijk kan team Duitsland traditiegetrouw weer meevechten voor de ROC titel. Ik kijk ernaar uit om weer op het ijs te rijden en om de gevechten aan te gaan met de indrukwekkende deelnemende coureurs."

Vettel vertelt: "Ik ben zeer verheugd dat Mick (Schumacher) me weer vergezelt bij de Race of Champions – voor wat mijn eerste race sinds mijn pensioen uit de Formule 1 zal zijn. We hebben beiden niet veel ervaring op het ijs en in de sneeuw dus eerder dit jaar (bij de ROC-editie 2022, ook in Zweden) viel er veel voor ons te leren. Ik verraste mezelf door de individuele finale te bereiken, waarin ik het moest opnemen tegen Sébastian Loeb. Ik kan niet wachten om hier terug te keren en met Mick te gaan samenwerken om te proberen de ROC Nations Cup titel terug mee naar Duitsland te nemen."

In de eind jaren 90 gingen de F1 coureurs altijd zo rond kerst eindejaar karten wat altijd tig keer werd herhaald op Eurosport.

  Dat was ook nog de periode waarin The Race of Champions een race tussen kampioenen uit diverse klasses betrof.

  Sportpaleis Bercy was dat, was erg leuk met bijna alle F1 coureurs aan de start in de kart en idd op Eurosport.
  Jammer dat dit evenement niet meer bestaat.
