Hamilton blij met komst Schumacher: "Je werkt niet zo close samen"

Vorige week werd bekend dat Mick Schumacher vanaf 2023 zal gaan fungeren als derde coureur van het team van Mercedes. De Duitser kreeg geen nieuw contract bij Haas maar werd dus opgepikt door Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton is blij met diens komst maar verwacht niet dat ze veel gaan samenwerken.

Schumacher reed dit jaar voor het tweede seizoen op rij voor het team van Haas in de koningsklasse van de autosport. De jonge Duitser werd echter compleet verslagen door zijn teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen. Tevens reed Schumacher zeer veel schade en crashte hij fors in Saoedi-Arabië, Monaco en Japan. Mercedes denkt echter dat de talenten van Schumacher goed genoeg zijn voor een reserverol.

Talent

Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton is zeer blij met de komst van Schumacher naar zijn werkgever. De Britse zevenvoudig wereldkampioen deelt zijn complimenten in gesprek met het Duitse Sport Bild: "Mick is echt een heel erg goed talent. Hij is een echte aanwinst voor Mercedes. Hij is een Duitse coureur en zijn vader Michael Schumacher en Mercedes hadden al heel erg nauwe banden."

Samenwerking

Hamilton verwacht echter niet dat hij Schumacher veel zal gaan tegenkomen op de circuits of in de fabriek van Mercedes. De Brit ziet namelijk dat de werkzaamheden van reservecoureurs flink zijn veranderd in de afgelopen jaren. "Je werkt niet meer zo close samen met de derde coureur. Tegenwoordig is het heel erg veel simulatorwerk en is het niet meer zoals het ooit was. Zelfs als we teamgenoten zijn is dat het geval."

  Het zou wat zijn als Mick tijdens een invalbeurt in die auto minstens net zo hard gaat als Lewis.
