'Versoepelingen zorgen niet voor comeback Chinese Grand Prix'

Eerder deze maand maakte de Formule 1-organisatie bekend dat de Chinese Grand Prix in 2023 toch niet doorgaat. Tot ieders verrassing stond de Grand Prix namelijk op de onthulde kalender voor 2023. De strenge coronamaatregelen zorgden ervoor dat de race werd geschrapt, nieuwe versoepelingen gaan daar geen verandering in brengen.

Recent maakte de Chinese overheid bekend dat de zeer strenge maatregelen in het land worden versoepeld. De quarantaineverplichtingen voor buitenlandse reizigers worden per 8 januari geschrapt en in theorie maat dat een Chinese Grand Prix weer mogelijk. De organisatie van de race nabij de stad Shanghai hoeft echter niet op een comeback te rekenen.

De Telegraaf meldt namelijk dat er officieel een streep is gezet door de Chinese Grand Prix voor 2023. Men is momenteel hard opzoek naar een vervangende Grand Prix en volgens de Nederlandse krant is het Portugese Portimao één van de grootste kanshebbers. De Chinese Grand Prix stond in 2019 voor het laatst op de kalender en ging in de jaren daarna niet door vanwege het coronavirus.

China versoepelt corona-maatregelen per 8 januari: einde quarantaineplicht. Betekent niet dat er toch nog kans is op een Grand Prix daar in 2023, is definitief een streep door. Komt mogelijk half april nog wel een vervangende race. Portimão lijkt belangrijkste gegadigde. #F1

  Dat men daar over blijft klagen - er zit toch echt een logica achter. Of dat te verdedigen is met het duurzaamheidsstandpunt is wat anders, maarja, er zijn ook praktische obstakels (incl. financiele).
  
  Bepaalde data worden bepaald omdat sommige landen extra betalen voor een bijzondere plek op de kalender (VAE, Las Vegas en Bahrein), de rest is gegroepeerd per regio muv van het weer. Daarom is Canada midden in het Europese seizoen (het weer is er te slecht buiten de zomer).
  
  Miami is dan de enige die door het bovenstaande niet kan worden uitgelegd, maar dat is waarschijnlijk het spreiden van de Amerikaanse races over het seizoen.

  Zoals Cookinho al zegt zit er echt wel logica achter.
  
  Races als Canada kunnen i.v.m het weer niet anders gepland worden. Bepaalde Aziatische waarschijnlijk evenmin omdat ze anders in het tropisch regen seizoen vallen. Australie moet ivm het klimaat ook voorin of achteraan de kalender. COTA ligt in Texas waar je ook niet op elk jasrgetijde zomaar terecht kan.
  
  Dan zijn er nog promotors die hun event niet in dezelfde periode als nabij gelegen races op de kalender willen omdat dit bezoekersaantallen kan kosten.
  
  Verder zitten promotors ook nog vast aan lokale vergunningen. Zo zal Zandvoor de race ook niet midden zomer (strand) seizoen willen om de logistiek van de bezoekerstoestroom te kunnen reguleren (en accommodatie beschikbaarheid).
  
  Er zitten kortom zoveel mitsen en maren aan vast dat ze de kalender echt niet zomaar in de meest logische volgorde kunnen opstellen.
