Vettel ziet commentator-rol niet zitten: "Veel mensen beter dan ik"

Sebastian Vettel nam vorige maand afscheid van de Formule 1. De Duitse viervoudig wereldkampioen is nu officieel een pensionado en hij genoot van zijn laatste maanden in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Wat Vettel in de toekomst gaat doen is nog onduidelijk maar hij sluit een rol als commentator uit.

Vettel kondigde afgelopen zomer zijn afscheid van de Formule 1 aan. De toenmalig Aston Martin-coureur werd vervolgens op alle circuits hartelijk uitgezwaaid door de fans. De Duitser ontving daarnaast ook veel lof en waardering van zijn collega-coureurs, zijn afscheid in Abu Dhabi was dan ook een zeer emotionele bedoening.

Geluk

Vettel is blij met de manier waarop hij afscheid nam van de koningsklasse van de autosport. De Duitse inmiddels oud-coureur bespreekt die laatste wedstrijd met de Oostenrijkse zender ServusTV: "Ik denk dat ik heel erg veel geluk had dat ik op deze manier afscheid mocht nemen. De waardering van de coureurs en de rest van de paddock betekende heel erg veel voor mij. Ik denk dat de sfeer tijdens het weekend heel erg fijn was en het voelde speciaal."

Commentator

Nu Vettel meer tijd heeft voor andere zaken, vraagt men zich af wat hij gaat doen in zijn vrije uren. Veel mensen verwachten dat hij zijn gezicht vroeg of laat weer zal gaan laten zien in de paddock. Veel oud-coureurs nemen plaats in het commentaarhokje maar Vettel ziet dat niet zitten: "Nee, nee, dat gaan we niet doen! Nee bedankt. Ik denk dat er veel mensen zijn die dat beter kunnen dan ik."
