Brown steunt nieuwe regelgeving omtrent politieke statements

Autosportfederatie FIA kwam afgelopen week met een opvallende regelwijziging. Men paste de Internationale Sporting Code aan op het gebied van politieke statements. De regelwijziging werd niet bepaald met gejuich ontvangen. Sterker nog, er was veel kritiek. Zak Brown vindt het echter wel een goed idee.

De FIA paste de Internationale Sporting Code aan voor politieke en persoonlijke statements. Coureurs en teams moeten vanaf nu toestemming vragen voordat ze een statement maken. Het is nog niet duidelijk wat er gebeurt als men geen toestemming vraagt, het is echter de verwachting dat er een boete zal volgen. In de afgelopen jaren maakten onder andere Lewis Hamilton en Sebastian Vettel veel politieke en maatschappelijke statements omtrent de Grands Prix.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown kan zich wel vinden in de nieuwe regelwijzing van de FIA. De Amerikaanse CEO deelt zijn opvatting in gesprek met ESPN: "Sommige onderwerpen zijn goed om in kaart te brengen. Andere onderwerpen zijn weer controversieel en weer andere zijn polariserend. Wij willen een sport zijn die het goed doet. Het is zaak om een goede balans te vinden. Het moet niet zo zijn dat er bij de start van iedere Grand Prix weer iemand is met een nieuwe politieke agenda, dat is niet goed. Het kan afleiden van waar iedereen voor komt."
