Formule 1 herdenkt overleden voetballegende Pele

De Formule 1-wereld denkt niet altijd alleen maar aan zichzelf. De koningsklasse van de autosport denkt ook regelmatig aan de rest van de sportwereld en men leeft dan ook mee met andere sporters. Toen gisteren bekend werd dat de legendarische Braziliaanse voetballer Pele was overleden, reageerde de Formule 1.

Pele bezocht de Braziliaanse Grand Prix met enige regelmaat. De voetballegende mocht onder andere met de finishvlag zwaaien op Interlagos en overhandigde in 2006 een bijzondere prijs aan de toen afzwaaiende Michael Schumacher. Het nieuws van het overlijden van Pele kwam dan ook hard aan in de bubbel van de koningsklasse van de autosport.

Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali leeft mee met d Brazilianen en de nabestaanden van Pele. De Italiaanse CEO sprak zich uit in een officieel persbericht: "Ik ben heel erg verdrietig door het nieuws van het overlijden van Pele, één van de beste voetballers allertijden. Hij was een belangrijk figuur voor Brazilië en miljoenen mensen op deze wereld. Zijn skills, zijn lach en zijn briljante acties zullen voor altijd blijven bestaan. Onze gedachten zijn bij zijn familie."
