Alpine verwacht veel van Gasly: "Hopelijk brengt hij wat we nodig hebben"

Het team van Alpine barst van de ambities. De Franse renstal hoopt dit jaar een stap naar voren te kunnen zetten en daarbij hopen ze vooral op de hulp van hun nieuwe coureur Pierre Gasly. Laurent Rossi verwacht veel van zijn nieuwe coureur en hoopt dat Gasly's technische kennis van pas kan komen.

Gasly werd eind vorig seizoen aangekondigd als de opvolger van de naar Aston Martin vertrokken Fernando Alonso. De Franse coureur komt over van het team van AlphaTauri, daar toonde hij met enige regelmaat dat zijn technische kennis zeer nuttig was. Bij Alpine hoopt men dan ook dat Gasly hierdoor een grote rol zal gaan spelen bij de verwachtte stap naar de kop van het Formule 1-veld.

Volgende stap

Alpine-kopstuk Laurent Rossi is blij met de komst van Gasly en dat steekt hij dan ook niet onder stoelen of banken. De CEO van het team deelt zijn verwachtingen van Gasly in gesprek met Motorsport.com: "Hopelijk brengt Pierre wat wij nodig hebben. We hebben het dan over het verder doorontwikkelen van onze auto. We rijden momenteel nog in het middenveld maar we willen heel erg graag de volgende stap gaan zetten."

Hoger plan

Rossi realiseert zich dat een nieuwe coureur veel meer moet meebrengen dan alleen maar snelheid. De Franse renstal moet namelijk een stapje extra gaan zetten en men wil de kennis en kunde van Gasly daarvoor gaan gebruiken: "Je hebt daarvoor coureurs nodig die niet alleen snel zijn en de potentie van de auto benutten, maar ook coureurs die de auto naar een hoger plan kunnen tillen. Dat betekent dat ze vanaf vrijdagochtend al goede feedback aan het team geven en dat ze het team in de juiste richting kunnen dirigeren."

Ja joh… we nemen rookie Piastri als vervanger van de ervaren ouwe rot Alonso om de wagen en het team verder te ontwikkelen als Ocon dat kennelijk niet kan. O nee, Piastri komt toch niet! Dan nemen we Gasly wel. Die heeft die Alpha Tauri ook zo goed weten te ontwikkelen afgelopen seizoen!?

Bouw een goede snelle auto, goed team en goede organisatie dan maakt de coureur niet veel uit.
LEC is goed, heel goed maar kon niet opboksen tegen de kardinale blunders die zijn team maakte om een voorbeeld te geven dat een goede coureur niet zaligmakend is

Ik lees hieruit dat Ocon niet erg technisch onderlegt is en dus wel verklaarbaar waarom hij 90% van het werk moest doen.

Wie neemt er daar toch de beslissingen? Er is niet echt een eenduidige lijn in te vinden in ieder geval. Zo worden ze nooit geen topper meer, maar blijven ze een tobber!

Rossi heeft goede hoop dat hij met Gasly een coureur heeft aangetrokken die dat kan.
"We hopen in ieder geval dat Pierre dit ook bij ons kan brengen. Volgens mij was hij bij AlphaTauri in vele opzichten de technische leider van het team. We willen graag dat hij daar bij ons mee doorgaat. Dat hij het team laat groeien en zelf meegroeit, zodat we samen een hoger niveau kunnen aantikken."

Op technisch vlak echter te bezien hoe de rolverdeling met Esteban Ocon zal zijn. Bij AlphaTauri was de hiërarchie vrij helder en had Tsunoda de handen vol aan zichzelf, maar Ocon mag met zijn F1-ervaring en de kennis van Alpine ook in staat worden geacht om zijn stempel op de auto te drukken.
