Rosberg looft Russell: "Hij was zelfs snel als Lewis een speciale dag had"

Het team van Mercedes kende afgelopen jaar een redelijk tegenvallend seizoen. De concurrentie van Red Bull Racing en Ferrari was beduidend sneller maar aan het einde van het seizoen kon men weer redelijk meevechten. Nico Rosberg was vooral onder de indruk van de prestaties van George Russell.

Russell reed afgelopen jaar zijn eerste volledige seizoen in dienst van het team van Mercedes. De getalenteerde Brit presteerde boven alle verwachtingen en was zelfs sneller dan zijn ervaren teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton. Russell versloeg de zevenvoudig wereldkampioen met enige regelmaat en wist zelfs de Braziliaanse Grand Prix op zijn naam te schrijven. Russell ontving tevens veel lof.

Ook enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Nico Rosberg was enorm onder de indruk van de prestaties van Russell in 2022. De Duitse oud-coureur spreekt zich uit bij Motorsport.com: "In het begin van het seizoen zaten ze er met de auto behoorlijk naast. Ze experimenteerden met de afstelling maar Russell stond er altijd. Hij finishte bijna altijd in de top vijf, dat is echt heel erg knap. Je moet dat waarderen, al helemaal als Lewis je teamgenoot is. George reed altijd snel en had een sterk seizoen. Hij had dat zelfs als Lewis een speciale dag had. Lewis is dan ongenaakbaar maar zelfs dan zal George er kort op."

Sterkste rijders line up met afstand van de hele grid. Alleen nog even de W14 aan de praat krijgen, dan kunnen de heren van RB en Ferrari ben ik bang inpakken.
