Zoon van oud F1-coureur Montoya nu officieel Red Bull-junior

Sebastián Montoya, de zoon van oud F1-coureur Juan Pablo Montoya, maakt nu officieel deel uit van de juniorafdeling binnen de Red Bull-familie. Eerder in 2022 kondigde de zeventienjarige coureur al aan zich bij de immens grote lijst van officiële Red Bull topsporters toe te voegen; nu lijkt de Colombiaans-Amerikaanse coureur ook de ondersteuning van Red Bull te krijgen in de reis richting de Formule 1.

Sebastián Montoya begon zijn carrière in de autosport in de kartwereld. Tussen 2013 en 2020 nam de jonge Montoya deel aan verschillende kartkampioenschappen, waaronder een aantal in Europa. Vanaf 2020 stapte de nu zeventienjarige coureur over naar het openwielracen, waar hij in de ADAC F4 en FRAC, FREC en F3 heeft gereden. Ook heeft Montoya inmiddels al wat ervaring in het langeafstandsracen; in 2022 nam de racer namelijk samen met vader Juan Pablo deel aan de 12 uursrace van Sebring.

Ook in 2023 zal de coureur niet stilzitten: samen met het team van Hitech Grand Prix zal Montoya deelnemen aan het Regionale Midden-Oosterse Formule kampioenschap, waar hij hoopt een sterke basis neer te zetten voor een opstap dichterbij de Formule 1. Nu Montoya officieel deel uitmaakt van het juniorteam van Red Bull, lijken zijn dromen op een F1-deelname dichterbij dan ooit.

  Dat is natuurlijk heel makkelijk praten, hij is nog vrij jong. Ik ben het ergens ook wel met je eens dat hij er nog niet uitspringt, maar dat kan nog.
  
  Ik zie Red Bull sowieso veel oudere talenten nu ineens sponsoren, een Fittipaldi, Maloney en Montoya gaan ze nu ineens sponsoren, ik denk ook in de hoop dat één van hun het toch laat zien. Wat nog niet is kan nog komen.

  Marketing technisch snap ik het wel, al die beroemde (achter-)namen. Hopelijk heeft de jongen niet alleen de beroemde achternaam van zijn papa, maar ook diens talent. Juan-Pablo is naar mijn mening een coureur die het talent had om kampioen te worden, maar nooit het materiaal. En enkele verkeerde keuzes en doldrieste acties van zijn kant natuurlijk…

  Palmares zeggen niet alles: ene Verstappen heeft pas in 2021 zijn eerste titel in de autosport gewonnen en die kan toch best wel wat.

  Met het verschil dat Max zowat alles in de karting heeft gewonnen, Sebastian niet.
  Met het verschil dat Max in zijn F3 debuut seizoen direct de meeste overwinningen had en enkel door pech uiteindelijk 3de in het kampioenschap is geworden. Sebastian niet.
  
  Kijk je hoeft het verschil niet te snappen en we weten ondertussen dat je het leuk vindt om nog steeds te trollen, maar je bent je de laatste tijd echt heel belachelijk aan het maken haha. :D

  Montoya was een rijder net als Ralf Schumacher. Op zijn dag erg sterk maar niet constant genoeg en te veel fouten. Hij verbleekte ook heel snel toen hij naast Raikkonen kwam te zitten.

  Juan Pablo had, met een kampioenswagen, makkelijk wereldkampioen kunnen worden. Wel een ontzettend heethoofd. Zoek maar de video op YT dat hij in de paddock tegen een camera man oploopt en je begrijpt wat ik bedoel.

  @RHB2019: en 50% van de racecraft van z’n pa is genoeg om het volgende kwart de baas te worden. Als ie dan ook nog de ballen van sr heeft rijdt ie zo de top 10 in.

Offtopic: Giovinazzi heeft een plekkie in WEC bij Ferrari. Persoonlijk denk ik dat Mick Schumacher daar ook had kunnen rijden als die wou, maar Mick wou bij F1 blijven en daarmee voor Mercedes gekozen. Wel een mooie auto en nog steeds het mooiste europese alternatief als F1 niet lukt/ is gelukt.

  Die endurance races zijn snoozefesten. Vast hartstikke knap allemaal, maar de tijdsinvestering is mij als toeschouwer te groot.

  Als coureur waarschijnlijk fantastisch. Als toeschouwer zijn dit soort races aan de baan nauwelijks te volgen.
