Red Bull presenteert juniorteam met liefst zes Formule 2-coureurs

In voorbereiding op het aankomende raceseizoen heeft Red Bull haar ledenlijst van juniorrijders gepresenteerd. De raceafdeling van de energiedrankjesgigant zal in 2023 voornamelijk in de Formule 2 een flink aantal coureurs hebben rondrijden; maar liefst zes junioren zullen in Red Bull-kleuren het gevecht op de baan aangaan. Met de bekende oud F1-coureur achternamen van Fittipaldi en Montoya is Red Bull ook wat betreft historische glorie goed gerepresenteerd.

Ook voor 2023 staat Red Bull zeker niet stil. In voorbereiding op de aankomende racekalenders heeft de organisatie een aantal grote veranderingen binnen haar juniorafdeling doorgevoerd. In 2023 zullen de Red Bull-kleuren voornamelijk in de Formule 2 vaak te zien zijn; met coureurs Zane Maloney en Enzo Fittipaldi (Carlin Racing), Jak Crawford en Isack Hadjar (Hitech GP), Dennis Hauger (MP Motorsport) en Ayumu Iwasa (DAMS) zal de excentrieke Red Bull-adviseur Dr. Helmut Marko de opstapklasse van de Formule 1 met haviksogen volgen.

Ook in de Formule 3- en 4 zal Red Bull haar talenten zien rond rijden. Sebastián Montoya, zoon van oud Formule 1-coureur Juan Pablo, zal in 2023 zijn debuut in de Formule 3 gaan opmaken, net zoals Souta Arao uit Japan. Met coureurs Arvin Lindblad en Enzo Deligny zal Red Bull in de Formule 4 gerepresenteerd worden. Ook heeft Red Bull een derde Enzo in haar juniorenlijst vastgelegd: karter Enzo Tarnvanichkul.

Het nieuws was al even bekend, maar Liam Lawson zal de taak van officiële Red Bull-reserverijder naar alle waarschijnlijkheid tijdens een select aantal Grands Prix met Daniel Ricciardo gaan delen. Lawson zal zich gaan opmaken voor een debuut in de Japanse Super Formula-series; een pad dat al eerder op succesvolle wijze door Pierre Gasly bewandeld is.

Naast een hele sloot aan nieuwe namen binnen de Red Bull-familie, zijn er ook een aantal namen weggehaald. Coureurs Jehan Daruvala, Jonny Edgar, Yuto Nomura en Noel Leon maken per 2023 geen deel meer uit van het Red Bull-juniorteam.

  Ze zouden eerst hun blablabla kunnen doen en daaronder een overzichtelijk lijstje of tabelletje kunnen plaatsen, dan hebben ze zelfs nog meer woorden te pakken...

Dat klopt niet. Mocht Liam onverhoopt niet kunnen, moet Ricciardo standby zijn, maar hij is geen officiële reserve coureur en staat ook niet zo omschreven op de loonlijst en wordt ook niet als zodanig betaald.

De jonge talenten Liam Lawson, Zane Maloney en Dennis Hauger staan op de loonlijst als officiele reservecoureurs voor zowel het topteam als voor AlphaTauri.
Het duo laatst genoemde wisselt elkaar af tijdens de Grands Prix en krijgt zo alvast een waardevol kijkje in de keuken met het oog op de toekomst.

In november maakte Red Bull Racing bekend dat Daniel Ricciardo terugkeert bij het team als derde rijder. De Australiër wilde na zijn moeizaam verlopen periode bij McLaren even weg uit de schijnwerpers en kon terecht bij zijn oude werkgever. De goedlachse rijder zal een flink aantal PR activiteiten voor zijn rekening nemen, maar stapt daarnaast in de simulator om de vaste rijders te ondersteunen.

Rudy van Buren is tot slot de Red Bull F1 Simulator Test and Development Driver. De Nederlander speelt achter de schermen een belangrijke rol en brengt vele uren door in de simulator van het team. Nu de testmogelijkheden in de Formule 1 zeer beperkt zijn, is de rol van Van Buren zeer waardevol. Hij houdt zich vooral bezig met het ontwikkelen van de auto en ‘track support’: tijdens de GP weekenden afstellingen en nieuwe dingen uitproberen en aandragen voor de vaste coureurs.

  Voor zover ik weet moet een reserve coureur elk GP weekend aanwezig zijn.
  Als er meerdere reservecoureurs zijn, wordt er afgesproken wie er welk weekend moet zijn.
  Een derde rijder hoeft geen enkel weekend aanwezig te zijn, enkel als daar om verzocht wordt en dan in overleg. Heb Horner dat eens in een interview horen zeggen.
