Stewart wenst Britse kampioenen: "Hoop dat onze jonge jongens gaan winnen"

Groot-Brittannië kent een rijke historie in de Formule 1. Momenteel rijden er met Lewis Hamilton, George Russell en Lando Norris drie sterke Britten in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Formule 1-legende Jackie Stewart is hier trots op en hoopt in de toekomst op meer Britse titels.

Hamilton is één van de meest succesvolle coureurs uit de geschiedenis van de Formule 1. De Britse Mercedes-coureur heeft zeven wereldtitels op zak, maar kende afgelopen jaar een teleurstellend seizoen. Hamilton werd verslagen door zijn teamgenoot George Russell, de jonge Brit toonde zijn kracht en schreef in Brazilië zijn eerste Grand Prix op zijn naam.

Drievoudig wereldkampioen Stewart is trots op zijn succesvolle landgenoten in de koningsklasse van de autosport. In gesprek met Express spreekt Stewart zich uit over zijn landgenoten: "Er zijn nu een paar hele goede mensen. We hebben nu in Groot-Brittannië drie van de beste coureurs in de wereld. Je hebt natuurlijk Lewis, hij wint jammer genoeg wel met een Duitse renstal. Mercedes maakt echter wel hun auto's in Groot-Brittannië omdat het de hoofdstad van de motorsport is. Ik hoop ook dat onze jonge Britse coureurs op een keer een wereldtitel winnen. Dat zou echt fantastisch zijn."
