Tost prijst Red Bull voor proactieve houding in Gasly-transfer

Pierre Gasly rijdt dit jaar voor het eerst in zijn Formule 1-loopbaan voor een team dat geen onderdeel is van de Red Bull-familie. De Fransman gaat rijden voor het team van Alpine en AlphaTauri-teambaas Franz Tost begrijpt deze beslissing. Volgens Tost zou Gasly anders mogelijk zijn toekomst in de Formule 1 op het spel zetten.

Gasly reed afgelopen seizoen in de Formule 1 voor het team van AlphaTauri. De Franse coureur presteerde minder goed dan men had verwacht, maar dat nam niet weg dat er veel interesse was in zijn diensten. Alhoewel hij in 2022 een nieuw contract ondertekende bij AlphaTauri, werd hij toch door Alpine gepresenteerd als de opvolger van Fernando Alonso.

Toekomst

De overstap naar Alpine betekent dat Gasly niet langer onderdeel is van de Red Bull-familie. Gasly's voormalige teambaas Franz Tost begrijpt de stap naar Alpine. In gesprek met The Race laat Tost weten dat Gasly in de toekomst mogelijk buiten de boot kon vallen: 'Dat is dan ook de reden dat Red Bull besloot hem te laten gaan. Red Bull Racing koos niet voor hem en Pierre wilde naar een ander team. Aangezien er veel veranderingen zijn omdat Vettel stopt en Alonso naar Aston Martin gaat, was het stoeltje bij Alpine nog vrij."

Tost begrijpt dan ook heus wel waarom Gasly voor een nieuw avontuur koos. De AlphaTauri-teambaas deelt nogmaals hoe de vork precies in de steel steekt: "Red Bull deed iets enorm eerlijks door hem te laten gaan. Het was voor mij ook duidelijk omdat hij anders het risico zou lopen dat hij geen stoeltje heeft in 2024. Alle stoeltjes zijn voor dat jaar anders al bezet. Het is overigens niet makkelijk om zijn vertrek te accepteren. Uiteindelijk is het echter wel een fair besluit."

Mocht hij de mogelijkheid gehad hebben dan had ie al moeten vertrekken toen RB hem terug naar AT plaatste. Waarschijnlijk was er toen geen mogelijkheid en is dit uitgesteld gebeurd.

  Gasly is mid-season 2019 teruggeplaatst naar STR, dus een directe teamwissel was niet mogelijk. Voor 2020 waren er (volgens mij) alleen stoeltjes bij Renault (ingevuld door Ocon, gezien de voorkeur ook wel logisch), Williams (ingevuld door Latifi) en AR (ingevuld door Giovinazzi).

  Ik vind het een aardig risico wat Alpine neemt. Volgens mij kan Gasly erg slecht met druk omgaan en dat kan best een probleem worden naast Ocon.

  Helmut heeft zijn eigen kijk op de zaken(couruers) , :hij is strabant , maar toch ook wel coulant .

  Maar inmiddels is Alpha Tauri niet meer zo sterk als voorheen. Hoe goed je ook bent, meer dan spek en/of bonen valt er niet te halen. Kunnen ze niet veel aan doen, want ze delen techniek en upgrades met Red Bull en moeten met alles mee wat het grote ream doet, ook wanneer het alleen werkt bij Red Bull en niet bij Alpha Tauri.
  
  Als hij weg had gemoeten, dan zou het zijn voor iemand met meer talent dan hij. Maar Nyck is dat niet. Ze zijn ongeveer even oud en kunnen allebei niet onverdienstelijk aan het stuur draaien. Het maakt gewoon niet veel uit.
  
  Het verschil is dat Nyck bijzonder graag in dat stoeltje plaats neemt en Pierre het wel gezien heeft; dat stoeltje gaat hem niet meer verder helpen ongeacht hoe lang hij het warm houdt. Tijd voor iets anders, iets met meer kans op succes en met creatieve rooksignalen op originele momenten.
  Dat het hem wel moge gaan.

  @Needs, hij heeft na zijn terugplaatsing nog een kans gekregegen bij AT, maar terug naar RBR was hem nooit gelukt .
  Dat heeft hij mede te danken aan zijn karakter.
