FIA geeft toe: "Alleen Andretti heeft zich bij ons gemeld"

Autosportfederatie FIA opende recent het proces voor nieuwe mogelijke Formule 1-teams. FIA-president Mohammed Ben Sulayem kondigde het proces aan, maar het regent nog niet bepaald aanmeldingen. Volgens Ben Sulayem heeft vooralsnog alleen de Amerikaanse samenwerking van Andretti en Cadillac zich aangemeld.

De interesse van Andretti hing al geruime tijd in de lucht. De Amerikaanse racefamilie wilde met Andretti Global de sport betreden, de huidige F1-teams waren nog niet bepaald enthousiast. Na een poging om Sauber over te nemen, kwam met begin dit jaar met groot nieuws. Vlak na de aankondiging van Ben Sulayem liet Andretti weten dat ze samen met General Motors-merk Cadillac de sport willen betreden.

Monte Carlo

Over andere mogelijke nieuwe teams was nog niet heel erg veel bekend. De Formule 1 beweerde dat er nog veel meer interesse was, maar dat de andere partijen de publiciteit niet opzochten. Nu blijkt dat andere mogelijke geïnteresseerden wel héél stil zijn. Ben Sulayem sprak erover met Motorsport.com tijdens de Rally van Monte Carlo: "Momenteel heeft alleen Andretti het direct naar ons toe gecommuniceerd."

Gezonde markt

Alhoewel het nog lang niet zeker is of Andretti en Cadillac de sport gaan betreden, is FIA-president Ben Sulayem zeer enthousiast. De man uit de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten spreekt zich uit: "Hoe kunnen we nee gaan zeggen tegen zo'n grote fabrikant? We spreken hier over de Verenigde Staten. We hebben daar dit jaar drie Grands Prix, het is dus een heel erg gezonde markt. Ik ben echter niet verkozen om geld te verdienen, ik ben gekozen voor de toekomst van de autosport."

Uiteraard draait het om geld, alles draait om geld. En ja, er zijn prachtige F1-circuits in Europa te vinden, vele malen mooier dan die zandbak banen en die in de USA. Maar ik blijf het raar vinden dat een circuit moet betalen om een race te krijgen om er vervolgens zonder overheidssteun geen cen... [Lees verder]

Natuurlijk draait het om geld. Veel races in Midden-oosten en showbizz races in Vegas en Miami. Zijn genoeg extra circuits met de hoogste licentie in Europa waar men zo kan racen

  Uiteraard draait het om geld, alles draait om geld. En ja, er zijn prachtige F1-circuits in Europa te vinden, vele malen mooier dan die zandbak banen en die in de USA. Maar ik blijf het raar vinden dat een circuit moet betalen om een race te krijgen om er vervolgens zonder overheidssteun geen cent aan te kunnen verdienen. Ik zou het omdraaien, wil de F1 ergens racen, dan huren ze de baan maar voor bedrag-X en zien zélf maar dat ze er iets aan verdienen. Het is van de zotte dat circuits amper quitte spelen en de F1 zich ondertussen suf verdient aan uitzendrechten.

Voorlopig gaat er geen team bij komen, anders moeten ze de prijzenpot dusdanig verhogen, dat zie ik niet gebeuren.

Grand Prix Austin prima, daar had het bij moeten blijven in de VS, die carnavals optochten daar zit ik ieder geval niet op te wachten.

Ga racen op goede circuits waar er genoeg van zijn, en niet dit soort Bollywood GP'S te organiseren.
