Advies voor Ferrari: "Een revolutie zou op dit moment niet goed zijn"

Het team van Ferrari werkt vanaf dit jaar met een nieuwe teambaas in de persoon van Frédéric Vasseur. De Fransman kwam eind vorig jaar over van Alfa Romeo en is de opvolger van de vertrokken Mattia Binotto. Hoe Vasseur het gaat doen is nog niet duidelijk maar volgens Emanuele Pirro is een revolutie niet wenselijk.

Het team van Ferrari nam afscheid van Binotto na een lastig seizoen in 2022. De Italiaanse renstal won wel weer Grands Prix met Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz, maar viel daarnaast ook flink tegen. Ze verloren de titelstrijd van Red Bull Racing en dat werd mede veroorzaakt door tactische misperen en vooral pijnlijke betrouwbaarheidsproblemen. Het kostte Binotto uiteindelijk de kop en Vasseur krijgt nu de kans.

Oud-coureur Emanuele Pirro denkt dat er niet al te veel anders moet gaan bij het team van Ferrari. Pirro roept dan ook op om het hoofd koel te houden. De voormalige coureur deelt zijn opinie in gesprek met het Italiaanse medium Corriere dello Sport: "Een revolutie uit proberen zou op dit moment niet goed zijn. In plaats daarvan hebben ze een man aan de top nodig die het bestaande potentie los weet te krijgen. Dit moet het laatste stapje worden richting het winnen van de titel."

    Mattia heeft in elk geval de weg mooi klaar gelegd voor Fré. Enkel de strategie aanpakken en dan kunnen ze gaan als een banaan.

      Nou, Reb Bull was ook vaak simpelweg sneller. Dat los je met strategie alleen niet op. Ja, de motor werd vorig jaar geknepen, maar de auto moet echt beter.

Ferrari begon het seizoen met een redelijk uitontwikkeld concept (want 2021 was op voorhand al afgeschreven) en heeft gedurende het seizoen de motor moeten knijpen omdat die te onbetrouwbaar bleek. Vraag is of Ferrari voldoende ontwikkelpotentieel uit de auto kan halen. Hier zijn ze doorgaans minder in dan hun grote concurrenten.

      Redbull was het enige team dat van bij de start geen bruinvissen had. Ferrari had er zelfs nog op het eind van het seizoen, hoewel uiteraard een stuk minder. Dat kwam net zoals bij Mercedes niet in hun theoretisch model naar boven ondanks de hele uitgebreide testmiddelen die ze daarvoor hebben. Daarnaast kwam de onbetrouwbaarheid van hun PU wat de kansen voor het WK van 2022 hypothekeerde. Ferrari heeft daarbij (net als RB trouwens) snel de ontwikkeling van 2023 ingezet.

      We zullen snel genoeg zien of ook zij die gremlins er nu volledig uit hebben gekregen en kunnen ontwikkelen met de kennis van porpoising en PU. Uiteraard heeft RB een gigantisch voordeel qua ervaring met een reeds goeie wagen + zijn de regels hen eigenlijk niet vreemd door hun hellingshoek (rake). Maar om daarvoor Ferrari meteen af te schrijven en te zeggen dat ze zich niet kunnen door ontwikkelen is misschien wat voorbarige aanname. De PU upgrade zal de grootste zijn van allemaal en naar aero toe zullen we vrij snel weten waar ze staan. Ze hadden in Q een heel snelle wagen en ja RB had wat gewicht mee te sleuren maar zelfs na hun dieet en kennis waren de Ferrari's op het eind van het seizoen niet veraf. De banden waren ook een heikel punt in de R, dat zal nu ook wel helemaal anders zijn. Maar goed, het blijft voorlopig allemaal gokken hé - ik wil voornamelijk dat het terug spannend wordt vooraan en niks liever dat de 3 topteams om de overwinningen kunnen strijden.

    Logisch. Revolutie is de juiste ontwikkeling als het huidige systeem niet functioneert. Evolutie werkt als het systeem werkt maar niet optimaal performt.
