Jack Aitken verlaat team van Williams

De Britse coureur Jack Aitken was in de afgelopen seizoenen verbonden aan het Formule 1-team van Williams. De Brit verrichtte belangrijk werk voor Williams en mocht meerdere keren plaats nemen in de wagen. Aan deze samenwerking is nu echter een einde gekomen, Aitken wil zich richten op de enduranceracerij.

Aitken was in de afgelopen jaren op veel verschillende manieren actief voor Williams. De Brit kwam in actie op de simulator, reed een handjevol vrije trainingen en mocht in 2020 zelfs één Grand Prix rijden. Aitken kwam in actie tijdens de Grand Prix van Sakhir waar hij George Russell verving die op zijn beurt inviel voor Lewis Hamilton.

Aitken komt dit weekend in actie in de 24 uur van Daytona en bestuurt daar een hypercar van Cadillac. Hij laat aan Motorsport.com weten zich op deze loopbaan te willen concentreren en neemt dus afscheid van Williams: "We hebben in overleg besloten uit elkaar te gaan. Ik ben afgelopen jaar betrokken geweest bij het team, dat was mooi. Mijn eigen agenda stroomt nu echter vol. Ik wil mij focussen op mijn eigen programma en het vervolg van mijn loopbaan. Mijn toekomst ligt echt in de sportcars."
