Professioneel simracer Blakeley verslaat Bottas in Race of Champions-duel

Tijdens de Race of Champions Sweden-editie van 2023 heeft professioneel simcoureur Lucas Blakeley Formule 1-coureur Valtteri Bottas weten te verslaan. In het duel op het ijs liet Blakeley geen spaan heel van Alfa Romeo-coureur Bottas.

In het Zweedse plaatsje Pite Havsbad werd ook ditmaal weer de Race of Champions Sweden-editie gehouden. Bekende coureurs zoals Sebastian Vettel, Mick Schumacher en Valtteri Bottas stonden op de deelnemerslijst van 2023; de imposante groep professioneel coureurs werd onder andere aangevuld met een E-sportsteam: simracers Lucas Blakeley en Jarno Opmeer maakten deel uit van het team, dat ongetwijfeld meer schade aan de concurrenten kon toebrengen dan menigeen zou denken.

Na tijdens de editie van vorig jaar nog Sebastian Vettel te hebben verslaan, stond de Britse E-sporter, die vorig jaar nog de wereldtitel binnensleepte van het officiële Formule 1 E-sportskampioenschap, dit jaar tegenover achtvoudig Grand prix-winnaar Valtteri Bottas. Blakeley liet ook dit jaar een ervaren coureur met Formule 1-ervaring achter zich; met een verschil van ongeveer vier seconden wist de simracer Bottas te verslaan.

Boeit het? Bottas kan kwa publiciteit natuurlijk alleen maar verliezen, en hij kiest er toch voor om mee te doen. Voor de lol. Doet echt niet 100% z'n best. Heeft wel wat anders in zijn carriere ook.
Vindt het gewoon leuk als ontspanning..

  Vettel 4 voudig en die versloeg hij vorig jaar.
  Zou wel leuk zijn om dat kereltje gewoon eens in een F1 te zien rijden - tenslotte doet hij daar zijn sim werk in. Hier gaat het maar om 2 kleine rondjes in de sneeuw, in een F1 wagen ligt hij na 1 ronde mogelijk al in de lappenmand zonder aangepaste training.

Ik heb vanmiddag gekeken en wat vooral opviel is dat, buiten het feit dat het gewoon een leuk evenement is, dat baan niet klopt. De buitenbaan is veel sneller dan de binnenbaan waardoor je bij de brug en tunnel een vertekend beeld krijgt van de verschillen. De gein van de ROC was juist altijd dat je halverwege de twee auto's duidelijk in beeld kreeg om toch een soort van competitie te creperen. Voor de rest een heerlijk evenement met mooie namen die deelnemen.

En inderdaad, hij verliest en het is ineens 'geen spaan heel' en duiken ze er vol bovenop.
Niemand die over een sim-coureur zegt 'get a life', zit de hele dag met z'n neus voor een beeldscherm te doen alsof. Want dat is het natuurlijk. Beetje in een fantasiewereld.

Gewoon respect voor Bottas. Hij doet waar hij lol in heeft. Voor zo'n sim-coureur is dat iets van 'kijk mij eens'.

  Ik denk dat ze allemaal willen winnen. Dat zit nu eenmaal in het dna van dat niveau sporters. Dat er een factor lol zal zijn doet verder niet ter zaken.

  Een e sporter zijn is tegenwoordig een full time job en het verdient hartstikke goed. Dus om te zeggen dat hij geen leven heeft gaat mij veel te ver.
