Vasseur maakt zich geen zorgen over vriendschap met Wolff

Frédéric Vasseur is bezig met zijn eerste maanden als teambaas van het team van Ferrari. De Fransman heeft voor het eerst de leiding over een topteam en daar komen nieuwe verantwoordelijkheden bij kijken. Hij gaat er echter niet vanuit dat zijn goede relatie met Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff onder druk komt te staan.

Vasseur fungeerde in de afgelopen jaren als teambaas van het team van Alfa Romeo. De Fransman verliet de Zwitserse renstal om Mattia Binotto op te volgen bij Ferrari. Vasseur is dus allesbehalve een onbekende in de wereld van de Formule 1 en hij heeft dus ook al een grote hoeveelheid contacten en vrienden rondlopen in de paddock.

Eén van zijn vrienden binnen het Formule 1-wereldje is Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff. Nu Vasseur teambaas is van Ferrari, zal hij Wolff vaker tegen gaan komen als directe concurrent. De Franse Ferrari-teambaas maakt zich geen zorgen en spreekt zich grappend uit bij Motorsport.com: "We praten niet meer met elkaar! Nee, nu even zonder gekheid want ik heb deze vraag al vaker gehad. Persoonlijk denk ik dat onze vriendschap een voordeel is, maar dat het ook iets is waar we slim mee om moeten gaan."

      Hij is chef van Ferrari. Die zijn misschien in het begin van het seizoen een concurrent maar tijdens het seizoen verpesten ze het toch voor zichzelf en dat weet Wolf, dus die maakt zich niet druk.

      Gezien het verleden van de F1-teams zullen beide heren zowel op als naast de baan ongetwijfeld een keer tegenover elkaar komen te staan.
      "We gaan strijden op het asfalt, bij de stewards, bij de FIA en als het gaat om het Concorde Agreement. Zo is het leven", vervolgt Vasseur realistisch.
      "Maar toch zie ik wel dat het een voordeel is als je een gezonde relatie hebt met andere teams. Met name als er een gemeenschappelijk belang is of er afspraken gemaakt moeten worden.

      Zoals bekend heb ik met een aantal collega's een prima verstandhouding. Dat is altijd goed. Het is alleen zaak dat we dit allemaal slim aanpakken, maar je kunt er zeker van zijn dat ik op en naast de baan als een gek ga vechten met Toto", besluit de Fransman al lachend.
