Capito verklaart Williams-exit: "Kwamen veel races bij, dat is best vermoeiend"

Jost Capito was tot en met afgelopen seizoen de teambaas van het team van Williams. De Duitser bracht het team terug naar de strijd om de WK-punten en verbaasde vriend en vijand met de aankondiging van zijn exit als teambaas. Het was niet duidelijk waarom hij vertrok, maar daar is nu meer duidelijk over geworden.

Capito bracht het team in de afgelopen jaren weer de nodige successen. Onder leiding van de Duitser scoorde George Russell zelfs een opvallend podium in de regenoptocht in België in 2021. Zijn vertrek zag niemand aankomen maar in de laatste weken van 2022 werd dit toch naar buiten gebracht. Williams heeft inmiddels in de persoon van James Vowles een opvolger aangesteld.

Capito heeft nu voor het eerst sinds zijn vertrek bij Williams meer duidelijkheid gegeven. In het persbericht over zijn vertrek stond immers niet waarom hij zou vertrekken. In gesprek met Auto Bild geeft hij nu tekst en uitleg: "Ik had in eerste instantie gezegd dat ik deze job voor twee jaar zou uitvoeren, heel misschien voor drie. In de tussentijd kwamen er zoveel races bij, dat is best vermoeiend. Het terugbrengen van het team naar de top kost meer dan twee of drie jaar."

Dan ben ik nog steeds benieuwd waarom FDX moest vertrekken. Als ik Capito zo hoor was misschien nog 1 jaar doorgegaan maar was FDX dan volgend jaar ook opgestapt dan? Ik denk dat er iets meer aan de hand is dan dat het alleen vermoeiend was voor Capito.

    Door huidige hoeveelheid GP is het evenement aan inflatie onderhevig. Om de sport gezond te houden zou 12 tot max. 18 races het streven moeten zijn, al dan niet in combinatie met een uitgebreider raceprogramma per weekend (Sprint). En een circuit hoeft niet ieder jaar te worden bezocht; eens per twee jaar zou ook prima zijn.

      Daar heeft liberty net iets teveel geld voor betaald vermoed ik. Voor de teams begrijp ik dat wel en een stuk of 18 zou ik persoonlijk ook mooi vinden.
      Zonder de sprintraces erbij uiteraard.

      Nobel doel en zo zijn er nog wel een paar in F1 die dan moeten wijken voor ..... " money" ....

      Back to back races zijn al een serieuze opgave laat staan triple headers en daar komen nu de sprintraces ook nog bij. Zelfs voor een topteam is dat geen evidentie meer laat staan voor de anderen. De organisatie die dit vraagt nog zonder competitief te zijn is niet te onderschatten

      Ik snap die inflatie niet, THW. Er wordt door liberty veel meer omzet gedraaid. Als er inflatie is, dan door de wereldwijde economie. Blijkbaar keken er vorig jaar 500 miljoen mensen F1 wereldwijd.
      Dat een GP overwinning minder speciaal wordt met zoveel races is duidelijk. En ik zeg ook niet dat ik tegen minder races ben. Van mij mag dat. In ieder geval blijft de organisatie gezonder door meer races. Dat kan ieder kind op een rekenmachine uitrekenen.

    De geruchten gaan dat het gewoon een vervelende man was. Vergelijkingen met Michael Scott uit The Office US werden gemaakt. Daarnaast bracht hij ook te veel van zijn eigen vrienden mee. Of daar een Todd Packer bij zat, weet ik niet :)
