Domenicali juicht komst Ford toe: "Fantastisch voor de sport"

Afgelopen vrijdag werd tijdens de launch van Red Bull Racing bekend dat ze vanaf 2026 gaan samenwerken met Ford. De komst van de Amerikaanse autobouwer naar de koningsklasse van de autosport is groot nieuws, ook de top van de Formule 1 is er heel erg blij mee.

De komst van Ford naar de Formule 1 hing al de gehele week in de lucht. De Amerikaanse autobouwer maakte zijn komst naar de koningsklasse van de autosport op vrijdag bekend en tijdens de launch van Red Bull in New York werd ook deze deal officieel gemaakt. De reacties op deze nieuwe deal waren dan ook zeer enthousiast.

Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is in zijn nopjes met de komst van Ford naar de sport. De Amerikaanse autobouwer was in het verleden ook al actief in de sport en Domenicali spreekt zich uit in een persbericht: "Het nieuws dat Ford de sport in 2026 gaat betreden is fantastisch voor de sport. We zijn blij dat we ze kunnen verwelkomen naast de geweldige motorpartners die we nu al hebben. Ford is een wereldwijd bekend merk met een buitengewone geschiedenis in de autosport. Ze zien de hoge waarde van onze sport."

Dat was behoorlijk ongemakkelijk voor de mensen op het podium die hem daar vol trots aankondigden.

    Waarom was hij dan ineens verdwenen tijdens de announcement van Ford?
    Dat was behoorlijk ongemakkelijk voor de mensen op het podium die hem daar vol trots aankondigden.

      Ik heb begrepen dat hij onderweg was naar de launch maar dat hij pech kreeg met zijn Ford ;-)

      Het schoot Domineecali waarschijnlijk te binnen dat hij nog een preek moest voorbereiden voor zijn Zondagse volgelingen, dus die moest ineens als een haas naar het vliegveld.

      Amateuristisch is inderdaad het goede woord @Pick. Als organisatie check je toch van tevoren of al je sprekers en podiumgasten aanwezig zijn. Was dat gebeurd dan had de presentator (die volgens eigen zeggen veel broers heeft...) de Italiaanse parasiet van de F1 niet eens genoemd...

      Hij was daar ook gewoon, hij was met Horner mee gevolgen naar New York en was gewoon in het pand. Alleen op het allerlaatste moment vond hij dat hij het niet kon maken om wel bij de Red Bull launch te zijn en niet bij de anderen.

    Domenicali mag zeer dankbaar zijn met deze ontwikkeling. maar ook niet meer. Dit heeft niet veel met de veranderende regeltjes van de sport te maken. Het is nu niet alsof er een nieuw fabrieksteam toetreed oid.
    Ford stapt in bij een wereldkampioensteam. Hadden ze op gegeven ogenblik misschien toch wel gedaan. Is immers goed voor de pr , goed voor de know how.
    Hopelijk snapt Domeni dat en gaat hij zichzelf nu niet op de borst kloppen.

    Belangrijker is voor Domenicali nog dat de komst van Ford onderstreept dat de Formule 1 aantrekkelijk is voor grote merken. De 'groene' keuzes - die bij fans niet altijd goed vallen - zijn volgens hem cruciaal.
    "Ons streven om klimaatneutraal te zijn in 2030 en de keuze om vanaf 2026 met volledig duurzame brandstoffen te rijden, hebben zeker bijgedragen aan de keuze van Ford. We geloven dat onze sport op deze manier kansen en ook een bereik biedt zoals geen enkele andere sport dat kan.
    We kunnen zoals gezegd niet wachten totdat we Ford vanaf 2026 weer zien racen op de iconische F1-circuits."

    'Komst Ford onderstreept het succes van 2026-reglement'
    Alhoewel de FIA en Formule 1 tegenwoordig vaker niet op één lijn zitten dan wel, is FIA-president Mohammed Ben Sulayem een vergelijkbare mening toegedaan. Ook hij ziet de komst van Ford als een rechtvaardiging voor de motorische keuzes richting 2026.
    "Er zijn maar weinig merken die zo'n rijke autosporthistorie hebben als Ford. Daardoor is het voortreffelijk dat ze terugkeren naar de Formule 1.
    Het onderstreept het succes van onze motorreglementen voor 2026, die zowel spektakel willen bieden als ook duurzaam moeten zijn. Meer interesse vanuit de Verenigde Staten is natuurlijk alleen maar goed voor de verdere groei van de koningsklasse."
