Albon kijkt uit naar samenwerking met Vowles: "Heb eventjes met Russell gesproken"

Het team van Williams heef een onrustige winterstop achter de rug. De Britse renstal moest na het plotselinge vertrek van teambaas Jost Capito opzoek naar een nieuwe teambaas. Men vond de opvolger van Capito in de persoon van James Vowles. Alexander Albon verwacht veel van de van Mercedes overgekomen Brit.

Vowles speelde in de afgelopen jaren een belangrijke rol bij het team van Mercedes. De Brit was het strategische kopstuk van het team en had tevens een prominente positie in de pitbox van de Duitse succesploeg. Hij werkte nauw samen met coureurs Lewis Hamilton en George Russell, ze waren dan ook te spreken over hem. Vowles wordt bij Williams voor het eerst in zijn loopbaan teambaas.

Progressie

Williams-coureur Alexander Albon vindt het jammer dat Capito het team gaat verlaten, maar hij kijkt tevens uit naar de komst van Vowles. De Britse Thai wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "James komt nu aan boord met zijn ervaring bij Mercedes. Hopelijk kunnen we daardoor een stap voorwaarts zetten en de evolutie van de auto verbeteren. Laten we gaan kijken of we op korte termijn progressie kunnen boeken. Op de lange termijn is het fijn om iemand binnen het team te krijgen die zoveel succes heeft gekend in het verleden."

Russell

Albon heeft zich zo goed mogelijk voorbereidt op zijn aanstaande samenwerking met Vowles. De Thai heeft zelfs gesproken met zijn goede vriend George Russell: "Ik eventjes met George gesproken, niet teveel aangezien hij het druk heeft met vakantie vieren. Het tijdverschil was niet handig, maar ik hem eventjes met hem gesproken. Iedereen weet dat hij een hoge pet opheeft van James. ik weet zeker dat hij veel kan brengen."
