Derek Warwick neemt plaats over van Hill als voorzitter BRDC

Derek Warwick is door leden van de Britisch Racing Driver Club benoemd tot nieuwe voorzitter van de BRDC. Warwick volgt hiermee Damon Hill op, die zal gaan stoppen met het voorzitterschap van de BRDC.

Hill haalde in zijn periode als voorzitter onder andere de MotoGP naar Silverstone en sleepte een meerjarig contract met de Formule 1 uit het vuur. Verder is de Brit ook verantwoordelijk geweest voor de vele updates aan het circuit. Warwick wilde na zijn benoeming donderdag dan ook vooral zijn voorganger bedanken.

"Eerst een vooral wil ik Damon voor zijn harde werk, loyaliteit en vastberadenheid die hij tijdens zijn voorzitterschap van de BRDC heeft getoond. Hij heeft ons door enkele moeilijke, maar uiteindelijk succesvolle tijden gestuurd en ik wil graag verder gaan waar Damon is gestopt."

"We hebben nu een 21e eeuw circuit en de daarbij behorende faciliteiten. De komende vijf tot tien jaar kunnen we van Silverstone het beste circuit ter wereld maken", aldus Warwick, zelf voormalig Formule 1-coureur en World Spors Car-kampioen van 1992.
