McLaren CEO Brown: "Hopelijk hebben we een snellere auto dan vorig jaar"

Niet alleen Aston Martin is druk bezig met de laatste loodjes voor de lancering van haar kleurenschema voor 2023; ook McLaren onthult later vandaag in welke kleuren de MCL60-bolide precies gehuld zal zijn. Vooruitkijkend op het aankomende seizoen laat McLaren-baas Zak Brown weten zeer uit te kijken naar de lancering van McLaren’s kleuren voor 2023.

Het Formule 1-team van McLaren wil dit seizoen naar een hogere versnelling schakelen, om samen met coureurs Lando Norris en rookie Oscar Piastri het gevecht naar concurrent Alpine te kunnen brengen. Samen met een nieuwe teambaas in de naam van Andrea Stella en bovenstaande nieuwe coureur Piastri, zal ook McLaren fris en fruitig bij de start van het aankomende Formule 1-seizoen verschijnen.

Ook McLaren’s CEO Zak Brown straalt vertrouwen uit. Tegenover Sky vertelt de goedlachse Amerikaan dat zijn team 'er zeer goed voor staat.' "We hebben onlangs nog DP World aan onze lijst van partners toegevoegd waar Google, Coca Cola en Cisco ook van deel uitmaken. We hebben een geweldige support gehad, waardoor er veel in ons geïnvesteerd is."

"Faciliteiten zoals onze windtunnel en simulator zijn bijna gereed, waarna we een veel betere structuur en technologie achter ons hebben om richting de top te komen. Hopelijk hebben we een sneller auto dan in vergelijking met die van vorig jaar. Samen met ons nieuwe rijdersduo zijn we enthousiast om door te schakelen."

Weet niet wanneer het kwartje gaat vallen bij de teams, maar het lijkt dit jaar werkelijk nergens op met al die lanceringen. Vrijwel niemand presenteert daadwerkelijk een auto, een livery-reveal is bijna net zo sneu als een 'gender reveal party'. Niemand zit hier toch meer op te wachten?

De concurrentie is moordend, teams kunnen ideeën kopiëren, blabla...... Lanceer je auto dan vlak voor de wintertest, trek een doek van die auto af en laat ons zien waarmee je het seizoen begint. Kom op.... zo moeilijk is het niet....

Ik weet zeker nu Ricciardo eruit is geflikkerd bij McLaren dat ze in ieder geval de strijd kunnen aangaan met Alpine, waarvan ik denk dat McLaren boven Alpine zal staan na dit seizoen.

  Wat is daar mis mee? Als de basis van de auto goed is hoef je ook niet meteen de race erna met updates te komen. En practisch gezien zijn updates naar Australie sturen ook niet het beste.
