Grand Prix Spanje van 2023 gaat lay-out zonder chicane gebruiken

De Spaanse Grand Prix van 2023 zal dit jaar zonder chicane worden verreden. Na bekendmaking dat het twee lay-outs aan de Formule 1 en FIA heeft gepresenteerd; namelijk eentje met- en zonder de veelbesproken chicane die zich in de derde sector van het circuit bevindt. Naast het officiële bericht waar veel Formule 1-coureurs reikhalzend naar uitkeken, zal het circuit ook onder andere nieuwe veiligheidsmaatregelen toevoegen.

Sinds het Circuit de Barcelona-catalunya haar allereerste Grand Prix mocht hosten, heeft het gedurende de jaren veel veranderingen ondergaan. De veelbesproken chicane, die de Formule 1-wereld voor 2023 dus niet zal gaan gebruiken, werd in 2007 op het circuit geïntroduceerd. In plaats van via een lange doordraaier naar rechts op volle snelheid het start-finishgedeelte weer op te rijden, plaatste het circuit de chicane om de veiligheid van de coureurs te verstevigen. Het plan werkte, want de chicane haalde veel snelheid uit de flow van de laatste sector. Volgens vele coureurs misschien té veel.

Nu de Formule 1-auto’s dit jaar vol gas het rechte stuk weer op mogen blazen, heeft het circuit bij de eerste twee bochten wat aanpassingen gemaakt. Bij bocht één zal het run-off gebied worden vergroot, waarbij er zeventig extra meter aan gravel wordt geplaatst. Ook zal er bij bovenstaande bochten een nieuw hek worden neergezet om de veiligheid van de coureurs te garanderen.

Naast een nieuw, modern scoreboard bij de uitgang van de pitstraat en het opnieuw verven en plaatsen van kerbs en bandenstapels, zal het horeca- en commerciële gebied naast het pitgebouw worden vergroot en gemoderniseerd. Tot slot zullen de toiletten worden vernieuwd.

De Grand Prix van Spanje zal dit jaar in het weekend van 2 tot 4 juni verreden worden.

Ik vind dat ze sowieso van originele lay-outs moeten afblijven. Je gaat toch ook geen boeken van Roald Dahl aanpassen?

  @Patrick_St Volgens mij stuiterden er eerst 2 MB`s van de baan waardoor hij kon winnen... Wat die Chicane voor de rest betekent heeft weet ik ook niet, staat me niet meer bij. Zag die opmerking ook al ergens anders voorbij komen maar die kon me niet vertellen wat die chicane gedaan zou hebben.

  In het laatste gedeelte kon hij Kimi net genoeg achter zich houden om hem ook op het rechte stuk voor te blijven. Zonder die chicane had de snellere Ferrari hem wel gepakt op het rechte stuk.
  
  Maar goed, dat is verleden tijd. Voor nu is het alleen maar beter als de chicane weg is.

Heerlijk. Miljoenen euros mee gemoeid om deze baan "modern" te maken om nu eindelijk weer in t orgineel te herstellen.

(Vorig jaar was die krappe linker na het achterste rechte stuk er ook al uit)

  Captain H.M. Murdock@ circuits aanpassen kan prima, maar dan wel in de geest van het circuit. Zandvoort is op een juiste manier aangepast. Monaco met zwembad is op een juiste manier aangepast of Monza met een toevoeging van de chicanes destijds. Hockenheim is het perfecte voorbeeld van een circuit dat niet juist is aangepast.

  Dat is waar @Tyla. Hockenheim hebben ze echt totaal verkloot. De kombocht uit Monza en de chicanes erin was gezien de tijdgeest ook wel onvermijdelijk. Maar de chicane in Spanje die er nu weer uit gaat hadden ze m.i nooit moeten doen.
