Vrije trainingssessies GP's Japan en Mexico wegens Pirelli-bandentests verlengd

Mario Isola, hoofd van F1’s bandenleverancier Pirelli, heeft bevestigd dat dit jaar twee vrije trainingssessies vanwege de bandentests voor 2024 verlengt zullen worden. Bij de Grands Prix van zowel Japan als Mexico zullen alle Formule 1-teams een bandenprogramma van Pirelli moeten afwerken. De tweede vrije trainingssesies van bovenstaande Grands Prix zullen dan niet 60, maar 90 minuten duren.

Ook in 2022 stonden er bandentests van Pirelli op het menu. Bij de Grands Prix van Japan en de Verenigde Staten stonden deze verplichte programma’s op de planning zodat alle Formule 1-teams een flinke sloot aan data richting Pirelli konden opsturen. Vanwege een kletsnatte Japanse race op Suzuka werd dit deel van de bandentest echter verplaatst naar de Mexicaanse Grand Prix.

Tegenover internationale media bevestigt Pirelli-baas Mario Isola dat 'in-event' tests in Mexico en Japan zullen plaatsvinden, waarbij er 'dezelfde format' als vorig jaar zal gelden. "Het is een uitgelegen kans om de bandencompounds (van 2024) te finaliseren", aldus Isola.

Naast bovenstaande planning zullen alle Formule 1-teams ook Pirelli vooruit helpen door mee te doen aan een bandentestprogramma dat over het gehele aankomende seizoen zal plaatsvinden: "Alle teams zullen meedoen en in totaal zullen we 35 dagen hebben", vertelt Isola.
