Gasly verwacht een aantal 'eenzame races' in achtervolging naar top drie te hebben

Nu de wintertestdagen van 2023 er alweer op zitten, is de Formule 1-wereld druk aan het rekenen. Wie is de grote verrassing? En welk team gaat tegenvallen? Formule 1-coureur Pierre Gasly verwacht dat zijn nieuwe team Alpine in ieder geval nog steeds het vierde snelste team is, waardoor hij denkt een aantal ‘eenzame races’ in het aankomend seizoen mee te maken in de missie om dichterbij de gebruikelijke top drie van Red Bull, Ferrari en Mercedes te komen.

Vorig jaar bleek weer een groots experiment of de nieuwste generatie Formule 1-auto’s voor een flinke opschudding in de rangorde van de teams wist te zorgen. Echter bleven de gebruikelijke topteams weer bovendrijven. Met een collectief podiumtotaal van 65 van de 66, was het ook in 2022 duidelijk dat er een top- en middenveld binnen de Formule 1 aanwezig is.

Het Formule 1-team van Alpine hoopt dit seizoen echter dichterbij de topteams te komen. Met de aantrekking van voormalig Red Bull-coureur Pierre Gasly wil de Franse renstal flinke stappen op ontwikkelingsgebied maken zodat het niet alleen haar vierde constructeursplaats kan verstevigen, maar dat het wat betreft tijdswinst ook wat flinke meters (seconden) op de top drie inloopt.

Gasly blikt vooruit op het aankomende Formule 1-seizoen: "Het is duidelijk ons doel om op de top drie te blijven focussen. We willen niet terugkijken, maar we kunnen natuurlijk niet garanderen dat er geen team dichterbij ons komt. Aston Martin zag er bij de testdagen bijvoorbeeld goed uit. Er zijn een aantal teams die sterk oogden. Maar toch is het ons hoofddoel om het gat naar de top drie te verkleinen."

"Als dat betekent dat we een aantal eenzame races zullen meemaken, dan zij het zo. Maar als we daardoor misschien een top vijf of een podium kunnen behalen, dan zal dat stukken leuker zijn", sluit Gasly af.

Ik zou het wel grappig vinden als juist Alonso de luis in de pels van Alpine gaat worden dit seizoen.

Pfff ik vond Alpine er nou niet bijster goed uit zien tijdens de tests. Niet zoals bijvoorbeeld Aston Martin die een goede auto te lijken hebben gebouwd! Ik vermoed dat Aston Martin (in ieder geval Alonso) Mercedes het vuur aan de schenen gaat leggen achter Red Bull en Ferrari. Daar achter verwacht ik Alfa Romeo en Alpine pas ergens. Dus waarschijnlijk 5e team of met een beetje pech zelfs het 6e team.

  Alpine gaf zelf aan niet één keer naar echt snelle tijden gezocht te hebben en een stevige update klaar te hebben staan voor race 1. Denk dat we hun daarom heel moeilijk kunnen inschatten.

  Ja beetje gek verhaal van die stevige update. Als dat pakket al klaar is, waarom dan niet inzetten tijdens de enige schaarse testdagen voorafgaand aan het seizoen?

  Ik heb het idee dat de teams graag het basispakket binnenstebuiten willen kennen voordat ze zich aan updates wagen. Mercedes doet dit jaarlijks ook Red Bull en Ferrari heb ik dit zien doen. Vervolgens schijnt Alpine dit ook te doen. Waarom teams dit doen durf ik niet te zeggen. Wellicht willen ze weten of hun basis auto werkt alvorens er updates toegevoegd kunnen worden. Maar ik ben geen engineer dus zeker weten doe ik uiteraard niet.

  Dat zou inderdaad gaaf zijn. Ik zie die ‘oude vos’ Alonso zich ook graag regelmatig mengen in de podiumstrijd. Eens kijken hoe fel hij is tegen Max en tegen Lewis.
  
  Wat ik ook hoop is dat men bij AM ervoor kiezen om Stroll jr. niet te laten instappen wanneer Drugovich een paar prima races laat zien en goed in het kielzog van Alonso weet te blijven. Hopelijk hebben ze de ballen daar om Drugovich het seizoen te laten afmaken

Snap niet waarom hij bang is voor eenzame races. Hij heeft Ocon toch om hem gezelschap te houden? Die twee kunnen prima door één deur, dus dat vast wordt een gezellige boel.
