Nederlands toptalent Colin Caresani (19) mag instappen bij Mercedes

Goed nieuws vanuit het nationale front: tienersensatie Colin Caresani is komend jaar te bewonderen in een Mercedes AMG GT3. De 19-jarige inwoner van Aerdenhout heeft in de laatste jaren grote stappen voorwaarts gezet, om het seizoen 2022 af te sluiten met het vicekampioenschap in de DTM Trophy - de opleidingsklasse voor de DTM. Dankzij die prestatie heeft Caresani promotie richting de Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) afgedwongen.

Het NLS-programma is onder de liefhebber van openwielracerij waarschijnlijk niet zeer bekend, maar onder grote fabrikanten juist des te meer. Het is geen geheim dat merken als Mercedes, BMW en Audi de langeafstandswedstrijden in West-Europa nauwlettend in de gaten houden bij het selecteren van hun rijdersgilde. Meerdere tientallen coureurs zijn via de NLS doorgegroeid richting raceklassen als het WEC en de ELMS.

Caresani, een bekende uit het continentale kartwereldje, won in 2021 de Nederlandse BMW M2 Cup en groeide razendsnel door. Diens debuutjaar in de DTM Trophy werd bekroond met liefst vier zeges en de bovengenoemde vicetitel, waardoor de jonge Nederlander de aandacht van meerdere teambazen trok. Het leverde hem onder meer een uitnodiging van het vermaarde NLS-team Schnitzelalm Racing op, waarvoor hij vanaf het eerste weekend van april zijn kunsten mag vertonen. Schnitzelalm Racing is een renstal die wordt gefinancierd door de fabriek van Mercedes-AMG, waardoor Caresani pardoes in nauw contact met de Duitse fabrikant staat.

“Dit is de uitgelezen kans om me te meten met de fabriekscoureurs van Mercedes, waarmee ik dit jaar ga samenwerken", spreekt de gelukkige Nederlander. "Ik wil Mercedes AMG van goede feedback voorzien, hard werken en mijn resultaten op de baan voor me laten spreken. Racen op de Nordschleife is iets waar iedere jongen van droomt. Het is uniek en voor iedereen uitdagend. De gemiddelde kwalificatiesnelheid van de toppers in de NLS ligt rond de 186 kilometer per uur, dus dat is serieus snel. Ik kan niet wachten om aan de slag te gaan”.

Het NLS-raceseizoen van Caresani wordt in het eerste weekend van april afgetrapt, logischerwijs met een race op de Nürburgring Nordschleife.

  Ken die hele gast niet eigenlijk. Maar hij rijdt in een puike auto! AMG GT3 is een auto naar mijn hart.
  
  En zolang hij maar niet in de nek van Wolff moet gaan hijgen. Ook Schumacher vond ik weer meelijwekkend om te zien achter hem.

  Roep dat niet te hard rossifan@ volgens sommigen hier heb je alleen talent als je top 10 F1 rijdt. Alles daarbuiten waaronder indycar/wec/sf/fe/gt3 is voor hen prut

  @snailer, ik wordt van een hoop auto`s wel warm, maar die AMG GT3 is er 1 die uitsteekt waar ik waarschijnlijk nooit een ritje in zal maken.. maar zou mn linkerbal er nog voor geven om dat te mogen.

  Heb met een AMG op de weg gereden. Maar daar zijn ze niet geschikt voor. In nl moet je na een paar tellen afremmen. Maar dat geldt voor alle kanonnen.
  
  Ik weet dat de meesten er anders over denken. Maar in Nederland heb je niets aan dat soort fijne wagens. Momenteel kan ik dat soort auto's niet meer betalen.
  
  Misschien zit ik hier dus meer iets wat ik jammer vind goed te praten...

  tylahunter, dat is geen prut, maar er is maar 1 echte koningsklasse, je kan de knvb beker ook niet vergelijken met de championsleage, soms leuk om te zien, maar er is maar 1 echte koningsklasse.

  Knalpijp@ Dat is feitelijk onjuist is gebleken de afgelopen jaren met veel F2 talenten uit sterkere seizoenen dan het F2 seizoen dit jaar.
  
  Wat je eigenlijk dus zegt: "een F2 runner-up wordt direct minder getalenteerd het moment dat hij een Indycar instapt"

  Mee eens Royalere, toch zijn er altijd coureurs in andere klassen te vinden die genoeg krediet verdienen maar soms door sommigen worden afgebrand.
  
  Knalpijp geeft dat al aan. Illot in F2 was geweldig en vaak sneller dan Schumacher... maar nu is die een Indycar coureur... dus is Illot kennelijk volgens Knalpijp geen talent meer.
