Oud F2-coureur Vips ingevlogen voor IndyCar-test vanwege blessure Harvey

Niet alleen het Formule 1-seizoen is weer van start gegaan, ook aan de andere kant van de oceaan wordt er weer gereden. Vandaag wordt er bijvoorbeeld een Indycar-test afgewerkt op het circuit van Barber. Door een blessure van Jack Harvey komt er een zeer opvallende naam in actie tijdens deze test.

Harvey was vorige week betrokken bij een crash tijdens de Indycar-race in St. Petersburg en hij heeft van de medici nog geen groen licht gekregen om deel te nemen aan de test op Barber. Het team van Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing heeft daarom besloten om voormalig Red Bull Junior Jüri Vips in actie te laten komen tijdens de test.

Vips zal plaatsnemen achter het stuur van de wagen met startnummer 30. De coureur uit Estland testte eerder in oktober al voor het team op het circuit van Sebring. Vips was tot en met vorig seizoen onderdeel van het Red Bull Junior Team, in die hoedanigheid reed hij dan ook een Formule 1-vrije training voor Red Bull Racing. Hij werd vorig jaar uit het juniorenprogramma gegooid nadat hij zich racistisch had uitgelaten. Hij maakte het Formule 2-seizoen wel af, maar heeft daar voor dit jaar geen stoeltje.
