Organisatie Grand Prix Las Vegas deelt beelden van werkzaamheden

De Grand Prix van Las Vegas keert dit jaar weer terug op de Formule 1-kalender. De heren coureurs gaan rijden op een bijzonder circuit dat dwars door het centrum van de gokstad gaat. Toch is men wel bezig met een aantal bouwwerkzaamheden, de Formule 1 heeft namelijk een lap grond gekocht.

De sport is zelf immers één van de drijvende krachten achter de aanstaande Grand Prix van Las Vegas. Er werd een stuk grond gekocht om het pitcomplex en het onderkomen voor de paddock te kunnen plaatsen. De organisatie van de Grand Prix deelt nu beelden van de werkzaamheden. Te zien is dat er al een aardig complex is gebouwd, maar dat er nog genoeg moet gebeuren. Het is de verwachting dat de werkzaamheden ruim voor de Grand Prix klaar zijn.

    Het blijft toch een bijzondere situatie. Mooie historische circuits als Spa en Nurburgring worden uitgeknepen, met enorme investeringen opgezadeld en krijgen dan nog geen zekerheid voor de toekomst, maar voor Las Vegas trekt de F1 zelf flink de portemonnee.

    Zo'n gok zal het niet zijn. Op dat niveau wordt er doorgaans alleen geïnvesteerd als het zeer waarschijnlijk het veelvoudige opbrengt. Met een aantal race in de US op de kalender rollebollen straks grootmachten als Netflix, Amazon en NBC over straat om de uitzend rechten te bemachtigen. Dit is nu zo'n 80 miljoen voor ESPN, maar als de sport maar een beetje voet aan de grond krijgt in de US zal dit bedrag ongetwijfeld flink op gaan lopen. Waarschijnlijk (of het is al officieel geen idee) tekenen F1 en Las Vegas een contract tot 2032.
    Al met al valt zo'n lapje grond met wat bouwsels wel af te schrijven in 10 jaar denk ik.
