Tost baalt van resultaten: "Wat engineers zeggen vertrouw ik niet meer"

Het team van AlphaTauri kent alles behalve een sterker seizoenstart. Tijdens de openingsrace in Bahrein vielen de resultaten tegen en dit weekend in Jeddah hebben ze nog een vuist kunnen maken. Teambaas Franz Tost is dan ook zeker niet tevreden en dat steekt hij niet onder stoelen of banken.

AlphaTauri kende vorig jaar een opvallend zwak seizoen in de koningsklasse van de autosport. De Italiaanse zusterrenstal van Red Bull Racing wilde het nieuwe seizoen goed beginnen, maar Yuki Tsunoda en Nyck de Vries konden amper een vuist maken in de eerste race van het seizoen. Het zorgt voor veel onvrede, ook bij de eigenaren van het team aangezien er geruchten waren over een mogelijke verkoop.

AlphaTauri-teambaas Franz Tost is in ieder geval zeer ontevreden met de resultaten van zijn team. De Oostenrijker is fel en deelt zijn bevindingen op de persconferentie voor de teambazen: "Jammer genoeg is dit zo ongeveer waar onze auto staat. Ik had een veel betere auto verwacht. In Bahrein hadden we het enorm moeilijk. Hier kan het anders zijn en ik hoop met tenminste één auto Q3 te halen, we moeten hard aan de bak om de auto sneller te maken. Vooral op aerodynamisch vlak komen er al wat dingen aan. De engineers zeggen dat we vooruitgang boeken, maar dat vertrouw ik niet meer. Ik wil rondetijden zien, dat is het enige wat telt."

Fransie kan er niet meer omheen, zeldzaam zooitje knoeiers daar, aan de mogelijkheden kan het niet liggen, budget zat, veel te koop bij RB en toch snappen ze het niet daar.

"Soms moet je dit soort dingen zeggen. Ik snap zijn punt wel. Hij is geen engineer en geen ontwerper. Hij moet vertrouwen op de informatie die hem door zijn engineers wordt gegeven.
Als zij hem het hele jaar vertellen dat de data uit de windtunnel goed is, het een sterke auto wordt en dat niet zo blijkt te zijn, wat moet hij dan zeggen?", zegt Hill.

"Je hebt als leider van zo'n bedrijf ook de taak om dergelijke dingen te zeggen zodat mensen dat zelf ook gaan zien. Het is niet goed om te doen alsof er niets aan de hand is. Hij wil dat mensen de feiten onder ogen zien."

"Ik vind het eerlijk gezegd slecht leiderschap, want waarom zou je publiekelijk roepen: 'Ik vertrouw mijn jongens, collega's en engineers niet meer'. Ik vind dat afschuwelijk. Wat heb je eraan?
Als je dat zo graag wil zeggen, doe dat dan intern. Maar zelfs dan is het niet goed om je eigen personeel te vertellen dat je ze niet meer vertrouwt. Dit doe je niet op de internationale tv. Het is niet goed."
