Russell: Rangorde van Jeddah zal zich waarschijnlijk in Australië herhalen

Dit aankomend weekend reist het Formule 1-circus af naar het Melbourne Park-circuit. In wat alweer de derde Grand Prix van 2023 zal zijn, zal het team van Red Bull proberen haar voorsprong te vergroten, waarbij Ferrari en Aston Martin de leider willen proberen bij te houden. Of de laatstgenoemde teams dat daadwerkelijk lukt, blijft nog afwachten, maar Mercedes-coureur George Russell heeft er een hard hoofd in. Volgens de Britse racer kunnen de Formule 1-fans een soortgelijk verhaal verwachting als dat zich in Jeddah heeft afgespeeld.

Het Formule 1-team van Red Bull heeft in 2023 tot nu toe een nagenoeg perfecte puntenscore op zak. Van de twee races dit seizoen heeft de Oostenrijkse renstal een dubbele 1-2 zege, waarbij coureurs Max Verstappen en Sergio Pérez alleen tijdens de seizoensopener in Bahrein één mager puntje hebben achtergelaten door niet de snelste raceronde op naam te laten noteren.

Volgens velen is het Formule 1-team van de energiedrankjesgigant momenteel een aantal maten te groot voor concurrenten Ferrari, Aston Martin en Mercedes, waardoor het wereldkampioenschapsgevecht misschien wel alleen binnen het Red Bull-kamp zal afspelen.

Ook volgens Mercedes-coureur George Russell zal het Red Bull-feest zich in Melbourne Park voortzetten. De 25-jarige coureur meent dat het een 'soortgelijk verhaal' in Australië zal zijn, als dat zich in Saudi-Arabië heeft afgespeeld: "Het asfalt in Melbourne lijkt veel op het circuit hier: (Jeddah, Saudi-Arabië) veel snelle en vloeiende bochten. Ik denk dat de volgorde veel op elkaar zal lijken."

"Maar zoals we bij de kwalificatie zagen, zat er maar 2 tienden van een seconde tussen drie, vier of vijf auto’s. Dus dat zal waarschijnlijk ook hetzelfde in Melbourne zijn", sluit Russell hoopvol af.

Ongelooflijk he dat al die coureurs nog tijd hebben om te trainen terwijl ze zoveel van zich laten horen...

Of zou dit artikel 7 zijn van uitmelkerij over hetgeen in Saudi Arabië nog gezegd is na afloop van de race?
