Albon snapt niets van crash: "De marges zijn klein hier"

Alexander Albon kon vroeg gaan douchen in Melbourne. De Thaise coureur van Williams crashte in de openingsfase waarna de wedstrijdleiding koos voor een rode vlag. Albon was in orde, maar de teleurstelling was vanzelfsprekend zeer groot bij de Thaise Brit, hij weet nog niet wat er precies aan de hand was.

Albon reed een sterke openingsfase op het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne. De Thai reed op een bepaald moment zelfs rond op de zesde plaats. In bocht zeven vond het echter zijn waterloo, hij knalde vol in de bandenstapels en er lag grind en debri op de baan. De wedstrijdleiding besloot hierop de race stil te leggen.

Kleine marges

Albon zelf weet nog niet precies waardoor hij uitviel. De Thaise coureur was na afloop nog zwaar teleurgesteld en tastte in het duister. In gesprek met Sky Sports gaf hij opheldering: "Om eerlijk te zijn: we kijken nog steeds naar de data. We zien vooralsnog niets vreemds. Er gebeurde niet iets afwijkends vergeleken met de andere rondjes. Je hebt te maken met de temperatuur van de banden en de marges zijn klein hier."

Banden

Albon gaat ervanuit dat hij zijn banden niet helemaal onder controle had in Australië. De banden speelden een hoofdrol in de race aangezien de coureurs voor het eerst dit weekend onder deze weersomstandigheden reden. Albon wijst hier dan ook naar: "Je weet wat er gebeurt met de banden als je de grip verliest. Ik denk dat in de bocht in ging met een hoge bandentemperatuur en ik dat dit de oorzaak dan misschien is."

Zeker jammer, maar ook verontrustend dat Albon het niet snapte.

Lijk er op dat hij wat vuil oppikte doordat hij een bocht eerder te veel over de rand reed.
