Tsunoda grapt: "Misschien moeten we zonder achtervleugel rijden"

Het team van AlphaTauri heeft een zeer lastige start van het seizoen achter de rug. De Italiaanse renstal komt veel snelheid tekort ten opzichte van de concurrerende teams. In Australië werd dat afgelopen weekend weer pijnlijk duidelijk en Yuki Tsunoda grapt dat zijn team dan maar zonder achtervleugel moet gaan rijden.

AlphaTaur wilde dit seizoen sportieve revanche nemen na een teleurstellend 2022. Momenteel blijft het team ver achter op de concurrentie en kunnen Tsunoda en Nyck de Vries niet veel uitrichten met de wagen. De coureurs komen vooral veel snelheid tekort en dat werd duidelijk in Melbourne. Zonder DRS konden de coureurs weinig voor elkaar krijgen.

Over een aantal weken gaat het Formule 1-seizoen weer verder in Azerbeidzjan en daar krijgt men te maken met veel rechte stukken. Tsunoda weet dat het een lastige race kan gaan worden en hij grapt erover bij Motorsport.com: "Het zullen daar twee gekke races worden. In deze Grand Prix in Australië had ik last van veel drag en had ik een rampzalige topsnelheid. In Bakoe moeten we misschien maar zonder achtervleugel gaan racen om onze topsnelheid omhoog te kunnen krijgen!"
