Piastri verwacht veel van updates: "Kunnen dichterbij koplopers komen"

Het team van McLaren kent een slechte start van het seizoen. De Britse renstal kwam in Australië nog goed voor de dag, maar verder worstelen ze opzichtig met hun pace. McLaren komt dan ook al in Azerbeidzjan met een nieuwe update en Oscar Piastri verwacht zeer veel van het nieuwe updatepakket.

McLaren staat momenteel vijfde in de tussenstand van het constructeurskampioenschap, dit geeft echter wel een vertekend beeld van de situatie bij het team. In de eerste twee races van het seizoen had de Britse renstal het zeer lastig en kampte men met meerdere problemen. In Australië profiteerden coureurs Lando Norris en Oscar Piastri van de chaotische situatie in de slotfase waardoor ze punten wisten te pakken.

McLaren komt later deze maand met een aantal updates tijdens het Azerbeidzjaanse Grand Prix-weekend. Piastri verwacht veel van deze updates. De Australische coureur is positief en wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "Ik denk dat we hierdoor zeker dichterbij de koplopers kunnen komen. Ik weet zeker dat alle andere teams ook met updates zullen komen. Ik denk echter dat onze updates in Bakoe een goede stap zijn in ons plan voor de rest van het seizoen. Ik denk dat het gaat helpen en ik hoop dat we daardoor op het juiste pad komen."
