Alpine vreest voor nadelige gevolgen dubbelcrash GP Australië

Formule 1-team Alpine wil de komende races grote upgrades aanleveren. Het Franse team is van plan om bij Baku, Imola en Silverstone hetgeen aan de auto te brengen dat hen dichter bij de achtervolgers van Red Bull zal katapulteren. Het team is tevreden met de pace dat coureurs Pierre Gasly en Esteban Ocon bij de meest recentelijke Grand Prix in Melbourne lieten zien, en hoopt deze stijgende lijn richting de aankomende races voort te zetten. Maar, er hangt enige twijfel in de lucht.

De Franse renstal Alpine zag bij de Grand Prix van Australië een goede puntenscore in het verschiet liggen. Vooral coureur Pierre Gasly kende een sterke zondag, totdat bij de herstart in ronde 57 het noodlot voor het team toesloeg. Gasly en teamgenoot Esteban Ocon kwamen met elkaar in contact, waardoor beide auto's uiteindelijk de race niet konden afmaken. Het resultaat: een behaalde puntenscore van nul, vrees voor eventuele tekortkomingen in de productie van reserveonderdelen, en potentiële vertragingen wat betreft het ontwikkelingspad van de A523-auto.

Toch is er bij lange na geen complete misère bij de Franse equipe. Volgens Alpine-teambaas Otmar Szafnauer moet het team de huidige spring break goed gebruiken om te begrijpen waarom coureur Gasly nou zo snel was. "We hebben de auto sinds Jeddah niet meer aangepast", zijn de woorden van topman Szafnauer.

Het team heeft veel positiefs uit Australië kunnen meenemen, ondanks het onfortuinlijke samenkomen van beide Alpine-rijders. Volgens Szafnauer kan het team de huidige pauze van drie weken goed gebruiken om haar reserveonderdelenaantal weer bij te spijkeren.

"Het zal wat betreft het budgetplafond weinig uitmaken, maar dit heeft wel ervoor gezorgd dat we onze prioriteiten hebben moeten verschuiven. Het zal nu veel moeite kosten om de reserveonderdelen op tijd voor Baku gereed te maken, om nog niet te spreken over het doorzetten van de ontwikkelingen aan de auto. Gelukkig hebben we drie weken niks, voordat de volgende race begint. We hopen alles op tijd gereed te hebben, en dat we bij Baku en Miami geen prolemen zullen ondervinden", concludeert Szafnauer.

  Het zit tussen $1,5 en $2 miljoen.

Die schade dat hoort erbij, ze hebben wat ze wilde, Franse rijders, beetje schade hoort erbij, er zal nog wel meer schade volgen..
